I would like to see droids taken a step further. Right now they are just tools you use, or even just something fancy to leave in your datapad and forget about. I can't remember how long it's been since I've used a droid, and I've bought like 30 of em.
I would like to see a droid with a heuristic processor capable of levelling like a character. You have to train him up and allocate his skillpoints to different skills based on how much xp he's aquired.
Won't that hurt crafters?
No because there are plenty of ways for droid engineers to make money off of this. I would even go as far as saying that they'd make much more money with this systme.
To level a droid you don't take him to a trainer like you would do yourself if you were levelling. You take him to a droid engineer. The droid engineer would alocate the skill points and receive a fee for it.
The droid would not have vitality. It cannot be permanently destroyed. Instead, the droids programming get's garbled up the more stressfull situations he encounters. During combat a droid would get mind wounds (I know, mind wounds are out in the CU but why not just apply them to droids). To fix mind wounds the droid would get a memory wipe from a droid engineer. Which would require a fee.
Also, you wouldn't want to train a droid up and then realize he isn't equipped correctly and have to start all over again. So why not let the droid have exchangable equipment. Swap out that old laser blaster for an ion dispercement unit or a flamer. And while your at it increase the armor and add a small personal shield generator. For a modest fee of course.
This would insure a steady flow of money to the droid engineer as well as make droids more usefull and fun for everyone.
Ad droid isn't just something you use, he's your pal and buddy. He'll be there standing next to you through thick and thin.
You could even apply a similar system to crafting droids. The more you craft with them out, the more exp they gain and can gain skills to aid crafters.
So what do you think?
