I remember back when I was pretty new and when I woudl run missions it would be fun to have one of my droids fight alongside me. Seeing a little R3 cutting at a bad guy with his little saw was so cool.

Are droids these days any good for combat help or back up when traveling alone?

When they are working as intended. Right now armor on them is not working as it should.

I think it also depends on your CL. I'm a CL 5 so I bought a R2 droid with combat, auto-repair, anda WDG crafting station. It makes a big difference in combat, at least at the moment.

But I'm nervous about the impending droid 'upgrades'...

I'm CL 80 so i dont think there is any chance that there are droids strong enough to help me anymore.
