Thread: The Droid Commander
I'm Rifleman/CH right now and I would drop Rifleman immediately to pick up DC.

I can give a reason why it's not unreasonable to allow DE's the ability to command the droids they make. Creatures must be tamed and (in the roleplay sense) could get out of line if the master is too distracted with higher level and larger numbers of pets. In short animals can still have a mind of their own. Droids however cannot deviate from their programming. that is a good and sensible reason (roleplay wise) to diffrentiate between droids and creatures
This is by far the best reason I've heard so far.
Often enough dogs bite their master. A droid would always follow his program and serve.
I guess I have to rethink my opinion..
By far the biggest reason for opposition to Droid Commander, I believe, was that it involved Droid Engineers building droids they could not command. For some it was a matter of desire. They had chosen the class with the intent of controlling combat droids and to be told they would have to drop their skills and learn a new set was upsetting to them. For others it was a matter of a logical disconnection, feeling that those who built a droid should know enough to be able to order it into battle.
There were other minor issues as well. I've been trying to gather them in this thread:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=68723
However, that was really just to try and draw out the minor issues because the primary issue was so overwhelming that it was difficult to see the additional concerns people had.
It also adds a new profession, and a new starving mouth to feed. The dev's cant support the # of professions we currently have, let alone adding a new one. Also unlike CH who has hundreds of creatures to play with, DC would get a handful at best. Also there was concerns on how you fill 18 boxes withskills to spam "A"
