Thread: MERCHANT BARKING MODULE: A Request for refinement

could you imagine what that would actually be like if you were really there at the starport with all that noise going on. I mean spatial gets busy enough, but realistically it would be like standing in the middle of the NYSE on a bad day.

I know for a fact that I cannot. I even see it in know issues list.

As much as im starved for new utility. Given the option i would like tolive withoutthe spam module. Unless theres some sort of condition regarding it, id much rather not have anything to do with it for the above mentioned reasons.



But like i said before this aint no democracy.

Handsnake, 5 stars from me. whether people can ignore or not we need to make sure that people can't spam with these - otrherwise they will become the casual griefers new weapon of choice - that while good for business will be horrific for the overall game. As for a combo barker / vendor / storage droid - I am in LUST!!!!!!! But can we get the devs to let us have more than one droid out at one time to make it useful - not to mention do i need to stop by every hour to recharge its battery??? Sounds like it will never make it in, and if it does it will be a novelty more than a neccesity (which is not at all very helpful to our current plight).

TK, all, since this IS going in pub 8, I think we should put our 2 cents in for further refinement.


A 'barking' module would be great except for the fact that it spams people in spatial. End result: your barking droid is put permanently on ignore.


This is not good.


My suggestion to the devs: Make the "Barking" interface hit visual only. Like a temporary name change. This will show the message to people looking at the droid and will go a long way to keeping the module attractive for use.


Spatial won't be filled up with spam. People won't put the droid on ignore.


Furthermore, can we push to have a vendor interface? It would require a storage module in the droid and allow the droid to be used like a vendor. 10 items only is an acceptable addition to storage, since they have that anyway.


I would suggest that the vendor interface, paired with a barking module and a item storage module, be a perfect seller for merchants.


If we have to have the barking go into spatial, is there some way to

(1) Time it for a minimum interval of 2 minutes

and

(2) Apply chat types OTHER than shout - never allow shout (i.e., whisper, and perhaps a droid-specific 'voice' in bubbles)



I think that the vendor module should be a top suggestion to the devs, along with the above anti-ignore suggestions.

Umm.. just "how" would I put a barking droid on "ignore"? I mean, I can name my droid the same as your droid or the same as anyone else's droid for that matter. I'm presuming that therewould haveto be a "radial menu control" of some sort, to be used in silencing an offending droid?

How do you know this? Nothing I have seen indicates that this is how it works. Unless something has been published recently, in fact, we really have no idea how the "barking" takes place, or even if it actually happens at all.

Thank you, HandSnake! Being a DE, as well as merchant, I'm fairly accustomed to the continuous yelling that goes on around starports of people advertising this or that, etc. I would absolutely hate it if our player cities and landscapes become poluted with insistant yells and barks 24/7.


REgardless if we can ignore a droid or not, I think these are very valid points and should be considered. Keeping the spacial chat spam-free would be my method of choice here as well.
