Thread: Droids Raid Deathwatch

I was invited the other day to be the DE in what is designed to be a major Deathwatch raid, so I came up with a plan to use droids to help our attempt to be the first successful Deathwatch raid on Starsider. Below is the plan I gave to the leader of the proposed group. I'd love to hear some DE input on whether the numbers in this plan are correct, whether you think the plan is a good one, any suggestions/corrections, and what you think our chances of success are. This plan is also to test the often heard of theory regarding a small army of droids being used as tanks. And along the way, I want to score some PR points for droids and make them famous.

DE PLAN for DEATHWATCH

*Special Droid Items to Bring for Group*
20 R3 Tank Droids (1 combat module, 5 auto-repair modules)
2 crates of Droid Repair Kit Ds (30-35 charges, 1400-1500 heal power)
10 crates of droid batteries

*General Strategy*
- Equip players in the group (those who want them) with R3 Tank droids.
- Equip those players with at least 2 Droid Repair Kit Ds each (distribute according to number of droid users)
- Equip those players with 10-20 droid batteries each
- One player to control a Power Droid (probably should be the DE), to help charge R3 Tank Droids when necessary
- Instruct droid users to make macros for basic commands
- Instruct droid users to monitor battery power closely
- Instruct droid users to stay reasonably close together

*Statistics*
Auto-repair modules: 18 auto-heal rating per module
One droid (with five auto-repair modules in it) auto-repairing: 90 (18 rating x 5 modules = 90)
Five grouped droids with auto-repair activated: 450 heal power every ten seconds (to every droid in the group)
Ten grouped droids with auto-repair activated: 900 heal power every ten seconds (to every droid in the group)
Probable HAM of R3 Tanks: 4455

Please chime in with any comments/ideas you might have. Also, is anyone familiar with the amount of damage a Super Battle Droid does in one shot? I want to compare that to the auto-repair power of the droids.

None of this will hurt....and will be great for biz.

However, it's not really required for them to get in to the DWB and get stuff done.

Even with the group that got me in there and did it up, we had to hit the place many times before we got even one 'reward'.

Your plan is good...and will help them most certainly, but it's not an "I Win" button for the DWB.

Note: They better hope the droids will last once inside, cause you can only bring them in from the outside (i.e. no calling from within the DWB).

Actually, I would suggest going with Adv Probots with 4 Auto-Repair Mods and 1 Combat mod. The damage output would help to counter-balance the HAM and auto-repair reduction. The higher damage rating of the Probot would help to take out your targets a little bit quicker which reduces the need of the faster regeneration rate and higher HAM. Being that each group in the party would also have Repair Kits, the droids should be able to withstand being dropped in combat, if at least one person is paying attention to the droids in the part.

Just my thoughts on the matter, since I was considering doing something along the same lines my self, after I pick up Novice Smuggler to bomb the heck out of things in the Warren with a sheet load of MSE.

Thanks for the replies from the current and former droid correspondents. I will definitely consider using the Probots instead of the R3s, although I've already begun production of them. I figured we'd need every bit of HAM we could get and still have the same rate of auto-heal. And no, I don't expect that using the droids will guarantee success, but I'm hoping they'll be a significant part of it. Maybe this could even be tested on a lesser bunker first.

Any other feedback out there?

The DWB stuff is pretty tough, they are pretty hard to hit and has decent Energy resistance, and has an Armor rating. That means that no Droid attack is going to do a Helluva a lot. So even if the Droid does hit and not miss, it will lose 50% for each level of Armor, then whatever Energy resistance they have.

This means that even if you took maxed combat Probots in there with 5 combat modules, they would hardly scratch most of that stuff.

Couple this with the fact that most of that stuff hits really hard. It will be possible for a droid to die in 2 or 3 hits, with the 10 second Auto Repair cycle, and player stim heal delay, you really need as much HAM as you can get. Otherwise the droids will drop before anything can be done.

You may want to look into tossing some maxed LE droids in there, the 6000 HAM may make a difference. Make a mix of R3's and LE's. The R3's to heal and the LE's to tank. The 2 repair mods in the LE's will help heal as well.

Also make sure people have good stims 1700+ at least, and lots and lots of batteries. You are gonig to have a nightmare of a time keeping them charged and self repairing.

I hope it works, but I strongly suspect that 20% armor just isn't going to cut it, even with 6k HAM. Please prove me wrong.

I would also suggest doing the mixed LE and R3's. Sometimes R3's have a tendency to not do melee combat when you want them too. And the LE's do last a good while. That 6k HAM makes a big difference.

Things to watch out for:
You have to get really close to be able to heal the droids. Not everyone is aware of that. So I would suggest everyone getting a 12 sec timer IRL and then reset that everytime they heal the droid.

Thanks for all that info on Deathwatch, it's valuable information. Now I'm not sure which type droids to use lol. Of course I like the idea of the LEs because of the HAM, but I used those once in a minor cave a while back and wasn't impressed with them. I think I just might bring R3s and LEs both, and try to monitor which type holds out better. Still waiting on the word to go.
