I bought a bunch of these thinking they'd do something cool. I launch one. Fourty-five minutes later I get an email that lists the minerals that Dantooine has. I can do that myself by looking at my survey tools !!! What exactly can I do with them? Is there a FAQ somebody can point me to? Thanks for your help.

they are meant for looking at other planets not the one you are on.

trip to endor to find it does not have what you looking for is very expensive way to check resources. so you can launch prope and wait. or send bunch out to each planet if looking for something.

Still, it's fairly useful if searching for something specific that doesn;t always spawn. It does mean you can be doing something else at the same time!

Here is when I use them myself.

Let's say something dries up, and I now have 4 Harvestors free. I tab over to our Scylla Surveyors Guild website (kind of like SWG craft,) Lacking any really good options I see that Dath has something I wouldn't mind a little of. However, that resource has been out for about a week. Dath isn't updated as often as other more traveled planets.

Options...

A. Travel there to plant the Harvs, hoping it is still there. Paying for a round trip ticket if it is there or not.

B. Send out my little survey droid, then tinker around making droids for about 30-40 minutes waiting to see if it is there.

I choose option B quite often. In the long run, I save time and money.

Thats is the only scenario where the survey droid comes in handy.

there are a couple situations in which they come in handy. One being your looking for a particular rare resource (why travel to every planet in the galaxy looking for lidium extrusive ore and spending a good hour and plenty of credits doing it when you can send some droids and forget about it). They're also nice if you do a lot of harvesting and want to know if the resource has dried up. SWGcraft and other websites are generally updated on new resources fairly often, but it takes a while for older ones to be deleated. If you want to optimize your harvesting, youd have to travel to whatever planet they were on every day once it started getting into the grey area. Finally, they work great when you want a specific resource but your not sure if its still on a planet. You send out the droid and if it is, you can go try and get whatevers left of it.

No it isn't. The way I often use survey droids is when I'm browsing the bazaar for resources that the resource guys are throwing up for sale (at 60 cpu sometimes now btw, grrr). When I see something good that is new, I send survey droids out to see if it's still spawning somewhere, so I can mine it myself. This happened just last week. I saw some good steel on the bazaar, said "Holy $#!%," then sent survey droids around and discovered it was still spawning. Sometimes I get lazy and don't keep track of galaxy resources close enough, but because of survey droids, I got over 100k of good steel I might not otherwise have known about.

I use survey droids quite regularly - love the little guys.

First off, I'm a weaponsmith, so knowing exactly what resources are available around the galaxy is vital to me... which means that the SWGCraft.com database has to be kept up-to-date as possible.

I will always make sure that the Tatooine inorganic resources are kept up-to-date by using a survey tool and sampling, and I know that people on planets like Corellia, Naboo and Dantooine are also doing this. However, I'm not exactly the hardest character in the world, so checking out Lok or Endor manually is not an option. So I send an I.S. Droid instead.

I recieve the email, do a /mailsave, then put all the resource names into the SWGCraft.com database (making sure I get rid of anything that's not on the list). Of course, 95% of the resources entered like this will already have appeared on another planet - so they'll already have all the stats on the database. For the other 5%, I enter them on the database without stats. If it's a resource type that I'm particularly interested in, then I'll need to actually go to the planet and check it out for myself (which may incur the costs of hiring protection!), but in two months I've only had to do this once. On that occasion, there was fortunately a 60% concentration of the resource on the spot where the shuttle dropped me, so I could sample, see that it was quite crap, and leave straight away...

[ Asked a DE who has a shop near mine the other day if he could supply me with survey droids on a regular basis. Was a bit disappointed when he told me there was no such thing and that I was probably thinking of the creature harvesting module. Doh! Have set him right, and when my next I.S. Droid is down to one use, will probably offer it to his vendor for 10 credits by way of education!!! ]

Aethal Sar, Weaponsmith. Retired from game - probably missing it already!
