Thread: A little help for a new DE?

Hi all,

I am a new DE on the Chimaera server and just have a little query on gathering resources. I've not been in the game long, only about a month or so, but being a DE was one of the things that enticed me to the game (I don't care what any other professions say, making droids is far more interesting than just going around blasting things!)

Anyways, my question is this:

I am now a novice DE and have just got Intermediate Droid Blueprints. My problem now is finding resources to continue with my DE experience. I'm not grinding, I feel that you lose some of the experience if you just sit there all day grinding out components, so my progression is slow to say the least. However, as most DE's would attest to, the lower levels of DE don't bring in any credits, so I can't simply buy the resources I need. I've tried extracting the resources, but find it a) impossible to find a good source of sample, especially steel, and b) very slow going and a financial drain (I'm using 2 BER7 mineral extractors and 2 personal chemical extractors......can't afford anything else, lol)

I've been to sites like SWGCraft and they list the resources and which planets they are on, but not which area on the planet they are located, so I find myself wondering around like a muppet=)

Is there a more efficient way to gather the resources I need? Am I doing things wrong or am I simply ignorant to the ways of DE? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated=)

If you have survey 4 in artisan tree, check your survey tool.

Each time you gain a level in survey you can increase the range of your tool.

So, put it to maximum range, should help.

Also, BER 7 harvest is a waste of money.
If you pick medium harvester, pick BER 10.

You need to make money.
For that you have several ways.
Sell stuff on the bazaar.
Even low level medical droid will sell if they are cheap and money is money.

Also, look what good resources are on the shift, harvest them, wait until the end of the shift and sell them for at least 3 CPU.
Then, you'll be able to buy grind resource for 2 CPU or less.
Even if you don't grind for most of the stuff you'll need grind quality and good quality stuff, but mainly grind quality.

I don't like grinding, and I did quite some part of DE without grinding, but I can tell you, you'll grind in a way or another, or you'll get insane before you get master.

i have to agee with gavvot it is very hard to make any money until master as a de, i supplimented my funds with both hunting (was a rifleman before it was the thing to be) and sold resources. your best bet for resources is to check out what Weaponsmith, Armorsmiths, and Architects use. Build a good relationship with one and you will be all set for credits.

While DE is presently not my prime credit making profession, I do manage to make some sales.

Most of my sales were Medical/Storage AD MSE droids. Sure, they're pretty poor in quality Lvl 2 moduals of each), but people like the value compaired to the other beginner DE's on my server attempting to sell MSE droids with nothing on 'em, and somewhat more advanced medical droids with nothing else.

Look on the Bazaar, and see what's up there. If you can make something similar, or cheaper, then do so...

Yes, it's very hard and time consuming. I made Master Tailor first before I started down the path of MDE. I was able to maintain my harvesters and other DE related expenses by selling clothes, and selling resources. And even after making MDE, my primary income still come from tailoring.

As far as making enough money to maintain your career choice. I agree with the previous poster. Harvest and harvest and harvest. Keep the best material for you to build and sell, (with the understanding that you are not grinding), 2nd tier resources goes on to Bazaar, (and they will somehow always sell for me). And keep some junk material on-hand, just in case you needed that extra little grind to make it to the next box.

Just my two creds =]

Good luck!

Thanks all for your advice, its seems the concensus amongst DE's is to gather as much resources as possible and sell them on. As I've mentioned I have 2 BER7 mineral extractor and 2 personal chemical extractors, so until i can get some more credits to get the heavy duty ones i'll have to be content with the slow pace of extraction=)

Until then, I've decided to craft advanced MSE droids with both avain and foam effect modules for entertainers, and sell them on the bazaar for 6000 credits. What do you guys think?

Oh, and a question about clothes, since the last post is a tailor=) Does it make a diffrerence to crafting if I wear certain clothes? I keep hearing about ribbons (?) or something like that but have no idea what they are. There's a guy who's always AFK in Coronet here that is constantly spamming for this stuff. Any ideas?

MSE with avian and foam can sell on the bazaar.

But the market is small for those as you need novice dancer or novice musician to use them (both elite prof).

Medical module, even low can be used by novice medic (basic prof) to easily complete their profession quest for exemple.

And the number of people that have medic is much higher than the number of entertainers.

For the clothes, I think you're talking about Droidsmith toolkit. It's a bandolier, so cannot wear it and a backpack at the same time, and it give +5 droid assembly/droid customization and +3 droid experimentation.

If you wanna buy one, don't spent too much credit on it, it's a pain to use because you cannot wear a backpack and there are usually 20 times more droidsmith toolkit than DE on a server.
