Why do you think they go away after 20 calls? Because "the customization" has worn off?? all that means is the droids paint job is gone.
Droids will last FOREVER or at least until you destroy them from your datapad or trade themto someone else... *grumble grumble*
If you wanna get your droid painted again, just find a Droid Customization Kit.
