Hello All,
I'm still trying to figure out the ins and outs of droid engineering, and am wondering how experimentation really works.
I get strange and unexpected results sometimes. For example: While making combat modules, the rating I normally get is about 20. When I experiment the results of the experiment do not seem to alway jibe with the result message. Once, while experimenting, I got a moderate success message, but the combat rating of the module was dropped to 1. Another time I got an experimentation failure message, but the module combat rating was bumped up to 43! Other times I've gotten great experimentation success message but the module combat rating remains unchanged or is only raised by a point or two. And these don't seem to be bogus numbers. If I continue and use the module in a droid, the combat rating agrees with the numbers in the modules (e.g. if one gets dropped to a 1, it shows in the resulting droid's combat rating.)
Can ANYONE explain what the deal is and why the result doesn't agree with the message?
Thanks!

Happen on some stuff.
Basically, you have 1 stat to experiment : effectiveness, and the result of the experiment apply to 2 stats of the module :quality mechanism and combat rate.
Sometimes, one of the stats of the module fail and the other succeed, but the message you recieve said either that you succeed or that you fail.
I think the message is linked to the quality mechanism, that apparently does nothing and not the combat rating.

I don't remember seeing a quality identifier, but I typically only experiment with one stat. Since I'm still a low level DE my experimentation is hit or miss, but I would expect the result message to match the result. This is a bug that needs fixing...

Well, I think that by the time you'll reach master, you'll think this can wait...

When you say you only experiment 1 stat. You do mean the same stat on each of those trials, yes? Effectiveness, as stated earlier, is the only one that matters. You can pile as many of your experimentation points as you want into Durability and the combat rating wont move an inch.
Also the results messages are one of these.
Critical Failure, Failure, Moderate Success, Success, Good Success, Great Success and Amazing Success
what they actually mean is.
Failure, Failure, Failure, Failure, Failure, Success, Good Success.
Anything below great is a fail since you start lowering the potential maximum value of what you're experimenting.

Well, that won't be for a long time, I don't intend to grind much. And in the meantime it's incredibly frustrating and just plain wrong. A Success shouldn't mean something gets worse.
And FYI, there is only one, Effectiveness, that can be experimented with on a combat module, at least that's all I see.

Yes, there is only effectiveness that you can experiment on, but the result of the experiment apply on 2 stats : quality and combat rate.
And the message is related to quality, not the combat rate.
Yes, that's wrong, yes, that should be fixed, but that doesn't cause any trouble, it is just not logical, so we can live with it.
Many many many other things are plain wrong, and cause trouble, so they should be fixed first.

I belive he is refering to the Strange Experiment, you know when you fail and the stats don't change, you just loose those 3 boxes to experiment on. I have actually made a few modules with Failures that came out to the same stats as the ones with all Great Succeses. Yes the happen from time to time, not really something to worry too much about.
I also remeber it happening more when I was a younger DE. I do belive it happens to all of us look at the posts that people acheived the 119 Rated Harvestor Droid.

LOL this is so true. This is what I have complained about in the past -- that I'm a Master DE, but statistically speaking, I have no clue what I'm doing, since I get so many bad results (even good successes can make for bad droids).
