Howdy all. Pretty soon I plan to make a DE alt (my main is straight combat and no other crafting proffession has intrigued me as much as the possibility of making droids). I don't plan on opening a new account right away however, or I may just wait (if I can) the six weeks or so it will take to open my second character slot. In either case, this gives me ample time to start paving the way for my future droid builder by gathering up all the resources I can get my hands on. So my questions to you droid gurus out there are;
#1 -Which resources should I be stockpiling? I can imagine metals and chemicals being heavily used, but I dont want to stock up on say, fiberplast, to find its only used in small amounts in a rarely used component. Also an idea of what material Ill be using to grind on will be very helpful.
#2 -Which qualities make or break these resources for the droid engineer? My rangering days taught me what the docs and chefs each found important in thier ingredients, so Im aware how certain qualities affect the outcome of the finished product. Just want to know what to keep an eye out for.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Ive been studying up on droid making for a while now, getting ideas on how Ill be doing things... now I just need to take the step of getting the resources rolling so when I make that character I can jump right in!!

Steel and Fiberplast (for those 'grindy' times)
Good OQ / Cond: Copper, Steel and Gas
The list of DE named/rare resources (i.e. Lidium Extrusive...get that as soon as you can)
#2 -Which qualities make or break these resources for the droid engineer?
For the majority of DE products in whichstats matter:
OQ / Cond
or
UT/ SR

Best o' luck, future DE!!

Here a few key resouces:
Seel - Quality and Conductivity
Fiberplast - Quality
Copper - Quality and Conductivity
Extrusive Ore - Quality
Inert Gas - Quality
Tolium Reactive gas - Quality
PetroChemical - Quality
Also plan on gettting a good Equipment factory for making parts and you'll need Master Artisian or a PC one that can supply you with crates of parts.

Er....did they fix that too? Cause last I checked the UT/SR ratings were for quality and durability, which don't do anythiing for a droid. It's been a week or so since I've done any serious droid making, but on the final assemblies I've only every noticed OQ on the chemical and any other materials making a difference. Please slap me wrists with a flame if I'm wrong.

Any product that calls for OQ / SR / UT won't have a 'functional' effect from the quality of the resource. So, you won't make a better Harvest R3 by using uber SR/UT resources.
What I do see to be the case is that you'll face less likelihood of a critical fail on a product if you use mid- to high-end SR/UT resources (on items that call for these).
In other words, if you use junky resources it's been my experience that your likliehood of a crit fail rises.
While not a "quality" thing, per se...it can affect your frustration level.

*light clicks on* okay, yeah, then I'd have to agree. I've noticed far fewer failures when all the "required" stats on the resources are high while crafting than when using very low quality materials as well....which is why I do lots and lots of factory runs

If you read the Droid 101 post at the top, it gives detailed information on grinding up.
