...due diligence.
Spend an evening travelling about and get an idea of what the marketplace is like. That should tell you all you need to know.
DE is, IMO, the kind of profession that really requires a lot of 'sweat equity' early on to advertise and build a clientbase. Do not underestimate the time you spend building a reputation and how it can affect your sales. As your 'street rep' goes up, raise your prices little by little and you'll be fine.

Nothing like grabbing a Jawa Beer, a Swoop and checking out the competition one evening. Don't under price yourself

The game shows that every server's economy with regard to specific items can be as varied as anything in the game.
What works on one server may not work on another so I would agree with the previous poster and check out the competition. Start wth any vendor published on the planetary map, check out the bazaar, and listen to the spammers at the starports.

I would remove your DE tag if you have it, and simply ask people at random if they could point you to a good MDE. Go check out their vendor, and repeat as nescessary. I do this with my alt to gage how well my main DE buisness is doing. At first, no one knew more than one DE, and it wasn't my alt. After 4-5 months, people would refer my alt to my own vendor almost 1/3 of the time. Thats when I knew people liked my vendor, and my prices!

Lol Wire, that's funny. Going undercover and seeing what vendors people ask about.
On the topic though, pricesdo vary, even on the same server. Honestly, it doesn't hurt to talk to the other DE's as well. Ask them why their prices are so low or high.

as a rought guide i charge 4cpu for stadard stuff and 8cpu+ for named and good resources. this should give you you basic cost then you need to add abit to cover you factoy cost. ALso if you are paying 15cpu for some resource make shore you can get you money back.
but it is always a good idear to see what other people on your server charge.
have a look at this site http://www.undeadfish.com/droids.php some prices are a bit high but it will give you an idear.

I was charging 10K/level for simplicity, but lowered the price on the level 1's (to 7K - never sell anything on a vendor for less than that, in my opinion) and raised the price of level 6's (to 65k).
There are shops within 500m of me who sell them for 1/30th of that (level 6's for 2500cr), but I still sell quite frequently since I always have every level in stock. I also sell crates of 10 quite often.
