Thread: Does it matter what type of metal I use to construct droids?

There was a big resourse flux in the planet im in, and there arent any good spots for steel, but there are for copper. Is there any reason I shouldnt just mine copper? Everyone told me I needed steel, so not sure

It really depends on what you're building. Check the Schematic. If all it needs is some type of Metal...great!(like if you were grinding out MSE's). Go ahead and mine copper.

If you really need Steel (like for making Adv. Droid Frames) you can sample/move your harvestersto a different planet. Ormaybe you just need to try a area around a different town. I know once I had to place my harvesters out in the middle of nowhere on Naboo. It was about a 10 min trek everytime I made a trip out there. But I had a 96% concentration of steel I was sitting on and I usually had enough to make me happy for the day.

It's all about what you define as a "good spot." For some, being close to town and having a 50% concentration is good enough. Others need to have that 96% concentration spot that can only be found3 or4 places on a given planet.

Another good example happened to me tonight. Energy shifted on Naboo tonight. There wasn't anything more than a 20% concentration near my 7 harvesters. No problem, I'll uproot them and find a good spot. Took me about a half hour to find a 54% concentration that was remotly close to my harvesters/town. But then again 54% can be just fine for energy.

Travel further....better concentrations. Travel shorter....convienience of being close by if they start to run down. Sometimes, you get lucky and find a good concentration close to your town and then you can watch all the people come and make it a miner's field.

Take a look at the schematics for the droids you can build. I can confirm that copper is definitely the most desireable component for droids, or any metal with a high conductivity. Quality is of second importance. The way I think about it is that Droids are primarily a jumble of electronic components, brain, motive system, sensors, and manipulator arm. Steel should only be used where it is required and to make a good droid the steel should have a high shock rating and toughness as it's only real use is to protect the electronics and provide structural support.

Steel is important, don't get me wrong. Once you get your second set of bp's you can make the adv droid frames which grants you 462 exp (practice). It takes 16k steel and 8k of fiberplast to level an intermediate box.

If all you have is copper right now, then your best bet is to either make droids, mine another planet for steel, or wait until the next shift. Don't expect the steel to be missing from you planet for long though as I've seen this happen before and after a day or two the steel will return. Hope this is helpful.
