How does it save time from opening up your compartment and making it yourself? Sorry, I havent placed mine down yet. Too scared of the costs. Also would it be better to put the factory near my recourses, or near my shop if they are on different planets?

Well, the use depends on your progress through the profession, at least partially.

For instance, I'm a novice DE with just a looong grind ahead of me. One thing I DON'T want to do is reduce my experience, and factories give reduced experience... So I won't make droids or droid components in my factory.

What I DO make in my factory are MASTER ARTISAN components that I need to make droids. I am not trying to get GCXP anymore, and I don't feel like putting in the time to make dozens of GP and memory modules, so into the factory they go.

I use my factory as a temporary factory. I save resources and make a bunch of stuff in 1 day and then redeed for 3k. It's cheaper then leaving it there.

If you plan to leave it there, don't judge by where the resources are, because the resources will move on you.

Once you make advanced droid brains, you need factory produced GP and EMM modules

Once you make R3s you need factory produced advanced droid brains

Don't use the factory unless you have to i.e. gp/memory modules. Until you get to master droid engineer. I learned that the hard way. I leveled twice by factory only. I wondered why it was taking so long. lol 10% exp my A$$.
