Thread: Droid Data Storage Modules and Pets, a better alternative... please read and discuss..
Hello, I would like to begin a thread of polite debate on the issue of storing extra pets and missions in a data storage module on a droid. While I understand the reason for making these changes, I would also like to promote a better change that the total neutering of the droid data module. If the changes under the Correspondent Issues Response thread go through... the droid data module will only be use for Schematics, and trust me... very , very few people will want them for schematics. Let me describe a proposal for a better fix than what is currently out there or planed, and my arguments behind it. Then , please provide your feedback so this issue will receive some attention.
1) Limit the storage of CH Pets in a droid data module based on the Mature CL of the creature. Currently all pets take up 1 space, meaning you can stuff 110 pets in a level 4 data module on a MSE droid. If your goal is to keep CH's from having way to many pets.. this will help. If you are trying to reduce database space... this will help. Frankly I see something like this as a healthy compromise.. you can even go further in added maybe a pet storage module for droids, encouraging buyin more than the advanced MSE. If this is still to many pets, then go for CL * 2.. meaning a top level CL pet would take up an entire Data Storage 6 module. This would provide a use for the data storage modules, and some encouragement for CH's that like to be Pokemon Masters.. c'mon most enjoy collecting different types of pets more than having a dancing rancor in the cantina. Thats how your customers play, let them play.
2) Let us put waypoints back data storage modules. Ok.. like pets, we shouldn't be able to stuff the things full of missions... put another limit on it based on the mission difficulty. That way at lower levels we could purchase a modest droid to hold a few missions... at higher levels the same droid would be useless and we would have to upgrade to get even one mission in it. It can't be game breaking to head into the field with 4 missions instead of 2.
3) Droid pets cannot be placed in droid data modules... period.. can't be allowed or you database would be chewed up with nested infinite storage.
4) Droid Data Storage and item storagecan only be accessed when the droid is "ALIVE" not while he is in your data pad. This will make sure you think twice. If you want to store a CH pet, fine, but you wont be able to use that pet in any way unless the droid is out. Missions, fine put a few on the droid, but you will have to drag the droid out into the field to do the mission. This puts a decision point on the storage, Yea I got 5 extra pets over my "limit" on 2 droids,.. but unless I run around with the droids "out" I can't call them. This would put more droids in play and make everything more "Star Wars-ish". Make armor much more usefull on droids. I'm even up for making it possible when a droid is heavily damage by attack that it could lose data or items due to a "malfuntion". This attaches some risk to the reward.
Please read and respond with you're ideas...
Thanks,
Leland
Droids data storage should mimic the user. (Worst case examples of max allowable)
We each can hold 2 NPC missions. My droid(s) should match that. (Terminal Missions should be disallowed) So if I have 5 droids as a master and others, if the cap goes into effect, can only hold 2, then all we're looking atare 12 mission (quests) for DEand 6 mission (quests) fo others. That may seem high but if I come across a NPC who has a mission quest I don't feel that I need to do it right away and cancel out my existing terminal mission. NPC quests are less money but more in theme. Reason Terminal Missions should be disallowed was for the same reason missions in droid data got nerfed in the first place. Way too much cash was being made. NPC missions are usually for minimal cash and for something other than making money.
If I can hold only 2 pets and a CH can hold 5 then our droids should match that as well. If a CH has two droids with data and his personal cap is 5, then he should reasonably be able to hold 15 creatures in total. I on the other hand want my two for fighting/protection and maybe the other ten, fornothing really. I might have a horse or a dog type for roleplaying but Ithats about it. I was mostly thinking that a CH could make use of the data space on this one.
WAYPOINTS WAYPOINTS WAYPOINTS ----- PLEEEEEEEESSSEEEE I'd love to catagorize my waypoints to the droid I'm using. Resource on one, shops on another, etc.

I agree that removing all functions from data modules except for schematic storage is silly. No class really needs to keep legacy schematics.. you use them and delete them. Giving some more storage space for pets doesnt harm a darn thing in the gameplay context of SWG. Obviously pets should not still regen when in a droid, thta would be the only concievable exploitative advantage they might give since pets will start regenerating health in datapads. 10 pets for a level 6 data module doesnt seem out of order.
I really hope more droid engineers get onto this bandwagon;it's a huge market for droids that would otherwise have little to none.

I agree 200% with the original post.
Well, except for the part about losing items stored on droids. That's the only part that I wasn't really finding myself agreeing with.
Everything else tho... why aren't you a developer?
we should be able to store pets in the droid data modules. What else are you going to use them for? It's perfect for novice CH to go collect some pets and then sell them. You can't call or store directly to the droid.
Yet another droid part made worthless
Hey thanks... I am a developer... just not for any games unfortunately... where I live software is all boring business applications.
Lets keep this going guys... I appreciate the feed back and maybe we can get this on the list of issues for the DEcorrespondant. Yeah, I know... I got a 70/30 chance of any response being from the developer bot ... (Rand 1 -10) (7) = "Well look into that."

YOU REALLY WANT THIS? Then we will habve less NONE CH PETS because who will want to save them for someone like you and hand them out? Since you want that class nerfed even worse. Wered you come up with this idea? Don't tell me it will give BIO Eng business. Because it will not. You are just causing problems with stuff liek that. I enjoy giving away FREE NONE CH pets. This will not happen anymore if you ask SOE DEVS to limit it to 1 per Storage. Which would not happen anyways. Since SOE DEVS never do things in partials. They will either remove it all, or leave it alone.

You missed the point of this thread completely. The Dev's ARE TAKING THE ABILITY TO STORE ANY PETS OUT OF DROIDS PERIOD. What he is trying to do here is come up with a solution that /MAYBE/ the Dev's would take a look at and think "Hmm...That's not bad, and why not let them store a limited amount?"
Personally I think it's not going to happen, they are just going to take it away. But don't treat us DE's like we asked for this to be taken away. Though it is really a bug to have pets storable in the datapad, but it leaves the question, "What is a data module really good for?"

Right now I get a feeling that their meetings go a little something like this.
Bill, "Ok gentlemen, who can we screw over this week. Yes Tom"
Tom, "Well, we can lower the damage dealt by rifles"
Bill, " Yes yes, but your not thinking big enough. Seriously, Tom, thats only going to hurt one very small class in the game."
John, "Well, we had a huge response screwing over the droid engineers with the whole droid permadeath thing"
Tom, "Yes, yes, Do you think we can f**k with the creature handlers at the same time, they're a big group in the game."
Bill, " YES! Two birds with one stone. I'm loving it!"
