Thread: Hi, I am in the market for a droid or two:
*meekly walks in*
Ahem. I um, don't want to ruffle any feathers here. I came here originally to post my question, and I spied all the other posts. So I will try to phrase my question as kindly as possible.
I am a scout soon to probably be a ranger. I have seen other people with droids, and I want to add those to my repetoire of tricks. I am unfamiliar with their function though, and I don't want to end up buying something I can't use or really have no need for. So, I guess my question is this, if you were a DE in game, and I approached you, explained my profession, what droids would you reccomend I buy to help me?
I thought of the crafting droid, but I don't really craft anything but the occasional stim and meds for my low level medic skills. It would be nice to have though in spots where I can't camp. Do I need a certain level of medic skill to use one? I also thoughtof having a storage droid for all my "good" resource harvests that I plan on selling, thereby keeping my inventory strictly for the junk and not having to confuse the two or accidentally use good hide/meat/bone for a stupid tent. Ummm... what else could I benefit from? I have seen probots, but I am not sure what they do exactly. Anything else I don't know about that I could use?
Anyhow, some reccomendations would be nice, or hooking up with a DE on Eclipse so we could work out a custom order or something. I see very few DE's, even fewer droids listed on the bazaar, and the ones I do see don't seem to want to do business.
Thanks in advance.
I would recommend a droid with a food/chem crafting station. Since stims are the only thing you craft, it could help out, although without having higher medic skills that require a crafting station, it may be unnecessary. A medical module (or two) would allow you to use those stims. A storage module would let you hold a few of those resources (10 is the max number of items). Any of those components can go into any droid type (yay, for diversity... /sarcasm off). As for the probot, it is the only combat type droid we have (the DZ70 can easily get wiped out by a durni baby). Yes, the probot can hold those modules too. Some DEs may not like putting them in a probot, as it means you get everything you could ever need in one droid and the DE will never get a return customer. I personally have no care one way or the other. I have only made two "useful" droids. One I gave to a newb because I was in a really good mood that day. The other I gave to a friend. Never sold a droid yet other than the seekers and arakyds for bounty hunters
When, or if, you get your droid, don't forget to pick up some batteries. And the "customization has faded" message means the color, not the function. Just have your droid painted and you won't see the message... at least for a while since it is only temporary. Just thought I'd give you some advanced notice for that one ![]()
Hope you find a DE who can assist you.
Well, let me explain to you what the top end modules do first:
Medical 6 : 110 rated - 10% bonus to healing. Works outside of town or camps, but will not work in the Cantina's (WOW! That's nice isn't it! Buy one NOW! )
Mobile Crafting Station - Your Choice Cloth/Armor, Weapon/Droid, Food/Chem, or Structural (DE's are overpowered! Wait till the next hotfix so that these aren't the samestations as the ones in town)
Item Storage 6- At level 6 it holds 10 items (AMAZING!)
Data Storage 6- Never holds anything more than schematics (wow?)
Droid Repair - Heals Droid WOUNDS, not damage (NIFTY!)
Hmm, I guess that is about it to choose from. If I was you and not planning on using a droid in combat I would go with the popular Medical 6, FOOD-CHEM Craft droid, or if you you REALLY need those 10 additional storage slots the Medical 6, Item Storage 6 model. If you want to go all out you can spend 35K for the R3 that holds all the modules........OR you could buy the R2 that also holds all the modules for 20-25K (The R3 looks really keen though).
If your really rich you could buy the Advanced BLL that holds absolutely no modules, but takes tons of resources to make for around 50K. Only Master DE's can make that beauty though, it may be hard to find.
Sheesh I am bitter aren't I? To be honest, I think you would probably benefit most from the advanced Probot with a medical 6 and either the Item Storage 6 or the food-chem craft station. Why? Because the Advanced Probot serves more roles than just being a mobile craft station. It can be a semi-decent tank on the lower end critters and it can serve as the mobile hospital for both healing wounds and getting a boost to healing in the field. The little additional storage helps when you want to pick up that last item you have no room for, but really want to drag back to town. The craft station is really valuable when you run out of stims in the field, and really could use a bit more before you head back to civilization.
I understand that DE is screwed but when poeple like myself and the poster come here asking questions flaming us is only hurting you!!
I am a non DE and get hit with "our droids suck" from the people that make them!! **edit**????
That has got to be good for business!!!
My name is Drex'l on Naritus and for any non-Cynical DE please look for me i would like a good custom Med droid with color i will pay a good price (I am a doctor so not rich either) but i won't act cheap either
Take a deep breath, Drexel. Now breath out. Relaaaaax
Take a deep breath. Breath out... relaaaaax
No one got flamed here. Folks answered an inquiry about what droids would be decent for use. Ok - there was the teensiest bit of political commentary in the answer but there was lots of very valuable information in both posts directly related to the original poster's question.
I'm sure now I have flamed also and you have been persecuted - but seriously, calling either of those a flame is a bit reactionary.
Remember. Breath.. relax... breath.. relax. Works wonders
Yah, its ok Drex. I understand their frustration, from what I have read, and it is why I tried to be as nice as possible so that everyone knew I was sincere and not trolling.
Thank you guys for your input. I will keep this information in mind when I find a DE.

Well, I wouldn't really call my post a flame. I was pointing out EXACTLY what the modules do (well, with a bit of dripping sarcastic commentary in there).
I just don't want you going into your local shop and buying something for 35K and coming out with something you weren't expecting. You see a LVL 6 data module. Sounds great until you actually try and put something into it. A lvl 6 storage....sounds like it would hold a lot of stuff, but the truth has to be posted and explained so you don't think your going to get another backpack when in fact you barely get enough room to store your stimpaks. An experimented 5 Craft Station...that's great, but we don't know if it really adds anything because we just don't know.
Sorry if you took this as a rant against you personally...it was more directed at the totally fubared state of the profession in general.

I think I understand now why some people are complaining about not being able to sell droids and no one buying. If you tell your customer "my stuff sucks" or something along those lines they aren't going to buy it. If you explain to them all their options, what various things do, and some potential uses for things they will usually buy it right away.
I'm not a used car salesmen. I am not going to glorify a data module or a droid repair module when they are probably never even going to use it. If you are trying to buff up what some of these modules do to your customers, you are really doing them a diservice. I still sell quite a few droids, mostly because of my location and I am blatantly honest with those that come in for one. I explain my loaded R2's and R3's do the exact same thing, but the R3 looks neater and some of the modules really don't have good uses yet, but I cram them in there anyway just in case they do someday.
I hear a lot of DE's claiming to not have over 50K to thier name, which I find hard to believe. I am not a dirt poor crafter by any means....but I am not filthy rich architect , armorsmith or weaponsmith either. I never complain about the cash, just about the functionality and lack of differentiated droids.
