Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: My view on what the DE community wants
Starting Professions -
Artisan, Entertainer, Medic & Scout, Brawler, Marksmen, & Politition
- Give these no additional combat droid - the only thing they should be able to useis the current droids available ingame. (maybe even drop the probot)
Elite Professions -
Architect, Armorsmith, Bio-Engineer, Chef, Dancer, Doctor, Image Designer, Musician, Creature Handler, Weaponsmith&Tailor
- Provide all of these with the cert for basic Battle Droid (simple level 10 pet) and probot at novice level
Carbineer, Combat Medic, Commando, Droid Engineer, Fencer, Merchant, Pikeman, Pistoleer, Ranger, Rifleman, Smuggler, Swordsman, & Teras Kasi Artist
- Provide these with the cert for basic battle droid and probot at novice level
- At master level provide them with super battle droids (the ones from AotC) and droidekas
Bounty Hunter & Squad Leader.
- Provide these with the cert for basic battle droid and probot at novice level
- at the completion of one skill tree provide them with the super battle droids and droidekas
- At master BH grant IG-88 droids
- At master Squad Leader provide them with the ability to opperate 2 or 3 droids.
This is all that is really needed in the range of combat droids, We all know that 80% of this game is aimed towards combat so it should only be fair that DE can provide those who are combat orientated with the ability to improve there combat skills through the use of droids.
Make these combats more useful than non-creature handler pets (so that they are more appealing that creatures to fit in with the SW feel) but dont make them so powerful that they make CH pets obsolite.
Keep in mind that if someone wants to minmax and get an uber pet they would be better to get a few levels in CH still than to rely purely on a droid they are given. (BH should be made the exception since there choice to Master BH already forces them to use almost all there skill points to do so)
Now take time to read posts listing useful droids that appear throughout the SW universe that ARE NOT combat orientated. - most are in the game but provide no unique utility and are purly based on looks.
heres one i feel would enhance the game.
Podrace Pit Bot "tap the nose" -A light weight assistance droid that can be used by all to repair vehicles on the fly - treat them as seeker droids (once used they use up a charge) and keep the cost of the repair the same as if done at a garage (i read numberous posts saying the cost is there to provide a soaker for money)
Imperial Scanning Droid (A New Hope Special Edition) - Another seeker type droid that could be used in PVP to highlight an opposing factions target (e.g. you are battling an overt rebel in PVP with in a crowded mos eisley street, this droid when used hovers by your target highlighting him from the crowd, also possibly reducing the miss chance for shooting at a moving target)
Bottom line - we want Droids to be commonplace in the SWG universe as it is in the SW Universe. Utility and Functionality is greater than Combat ability where droids are concerned but combat ability should not be ruled out altogether.
The above is what i posted to TH on the help me thread.
I think really the problem comes from too many people saying "we are a crafting class but we want to be able to use the combat droids we make"
at some point this got confused into the point that droids should be as tough at creatures and so the only fair assumption would be to create a droid version of the CH.
If you look at the films and the role of droids in combat it is clear that it would takea full regiment of battle droids backed up with droidekas and tank droids to take down a rancor or 2!
Droids should not be as powerful as rancors in combat but at the same time they should be stronger than the level 10 creatures available to non-CHers. - Add to that the recent legality of battle droids in the current timeline of SW you will be lucky to see most of the combat droids used by everyday individuals such as craftspeople, entertainersand artisans.
Creating a newprofession of droid handlers is not the answer to the problem- i can see it only creating more problems in the long run.
PS - one last comment i have on the idea of Protocol droids using guns. i originally said it wouldnt be right to see C3PO walking round with a blaster, i now retract that statement based on my recent research into the droids of Star Wars... 4-LOM is infact a protocol droid who became free willed and, after some armor upgrades from Jabba, became a bounty hunter.
I like this idea... actually I thought a very similar one lol....
Just a note... are you sure Merchant is in the right group? I think it should go in the first one...
Ellesa
Great post, and I think it is right on the mark as to what we want.
However, if you look at this post by TH:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=54419#M54419
He states the following:
Im reading and gathering all of the ideas put forth and presenting them to the devs. Keep in mind that a bunch of the proposals put forth the idea of a "mini profession" or adding a droid handling tree to the DE profession which is basically what's on the table.
The important thing to remember is that any proposal has to include the following design criteria if they are going to be considered by the devs:
- Any player can handle any pet or droid as long as its CL 10 or below.
- Any pet/droid above level 10 has to have a significant skill point/experience point expenditure.
- Reference CH's and the fact they have to spend points for an entire profession to get those benefits.
- Factions pets (which could be some droids) will be added at a later date.
- Reference CH's and the fact they have to spend points for an entire profession to get those benefits.
Keep proposing good ideas and Drashk and I will keep looking for things that the devs and community can agree on.

The simple answer here to my suggestion would be to simply drop the battledroids altogether (dumb looking things anyway
) and grant each elite profession group 1 or 2 droids of equal power at master. Again i stress nothing too powerful that outweights the usefulness of the CH pets, but something unique to the class that would essentially be an upgrade to there level 10 pet once they master the profession of there choosing and provide that unique market for the DE that makes droids more commonplace in any players datapad.
As someone posted - all thats really needed to clean up this mess is a level 15 droidor 2to keep people happy. restrict it to mastered elite professions and you have your skill/point expenditure and one that allprofessions benefit from - not just one or two.
This is exactly what i intend to do - i posted this to make my voice heard and to get feedback from the community so that even if a small part of this is considered by the DEVs its a step in the right direction
