Howdy,
Being a dabbler DE for months now (2114) and lurking the DE boards I have come to repsect the pateience and creative process that inhabits this discussion forum. In light of the past 3 days of posts counter posts, flames and et all. There was a nice respite given by our flashy newish correspondent with insights from both his offical forum hat and his player hat.
In one of his well thought out posts, he touched on possible ideas if the cert system wouldnt go thru. Part of it suggested a new hybrid profession, with prerequistes as Engineering IV and Ranged Support IV. This got me thinking. There are a number of professions that used Ranged Support IV as pre req's, the most notably is Combat Medic. In that vein, I suggest the Combat Engineer.
As a minimum, the CE will be able to use combat droids, field support droids and repair em in the field. Additionally, the CE idea can also account for possible expansion upgrades for artillery, fixing Turrets(dunno about this one) and enhancing a squads fire suppression and flushing capabilites with bonuses akin to Squad Leaders, but in different areas. Significant bonuses so it would make sense to have a CE in your squad.
Possible abilites that might be included but could be gamebreaking:
- Range extension bonuses, derived from support droids with larger sensor radius (Commandos at 75range? and not an exploit? )
- Field Repair - auto with repair droids(Tanking with a high armor, low dam droid with 2+ repair droids behind it)
There is more but my time is limited ![]()
I hope to see some good criticism and more creative ideasto give to our correspondent and ultimately to the devs.
Thanks for reading. ![]()

I like the idea, and it allows for a fully thought out profession as opposed to just a small droid handling tree. Star wars is all about technology, and this would finally bring that into the most common aspect of the game, combat.

It could work, but I wonder if it wouldn't infringe too much on others' turf.
Whatever happens, the system MUST allow a person to be MDE/MDH. Perhaps we can lose the Master Artisan in that build, but I don't thing that's wise. MBE/MCH is a viable combination, so MDE/MDH must be viable as well...
