Everyone has been looking at the combat droid proposal as a PVE problem. What if we made High End Combat droids only available for PVP use ONLY?

Imagine this, In real life how many people really go around in Body armor and sporting the latest in combat weaponry, not many. So what if we make the large scale combat droids only available to those who actually use them in combat, Rebels and Imperials.

We can gather from episodes 1 and 2 that the seperatists were eventually defeated by the republic, but I'm sure that some escaped to the fringes of the outer rim and hung out till the empire took over. when this happened they came out of hiding and some of them might have linked up with certain groups of rebels. These seperatist droid engineers could work to provide the rebellion with a limited production of mechanical soldiers. There by the only ones able to use battle droids of any high caliber would be the rebellion and the empire.

Would work like this

Heavy combat droids CL50+ Faction only (PVP) rebel/imp only Requires Faction points to acquire control unit impression card. This is like a license to control the droid and would require an expenditure of Faction points and a certain rank to use.

Medium combat droids CL49 - CL26(CL21?) Faction only againrebel/imp only Same requirements as above. Rank and faction point cost will be either half or 2/3 of Heavy.

Light combat droids CL25(CL20) Elite Combat profession only. These droids could be surplus droids that made there way to the population. Your average person is not going to want to have an old beat up combat droid to clean thier house. These droids may have some of the heavy weapons removed (gives smugglers a possibility to do some smuggling or slicing of these droids) or not have any thing put melee weapons.

By only allowing non factionally aligned characters access to light combat droids, this will maintain balance, but will allow DEs the option to create droids that people can grow into. I liked the idea of having the droid also have to gain exp to become more powerful. this could be implemented like CH pets that instead of growing by age they have to grow by experience. (showing my age here) but in Short Circuit Number 5 started off as a dumb military bot, but after interaction with the real world he learned how to interact and eventually gained a personality. The same could be said as with training humans to be soldiers, takes time to make a Ranger or a SEAL team member.

As I stated above you could have some interaction with your combat droid by taking it to a smuggler. You might get a combat droid that has a slow firing cannon or the DE just didn't do as good a job as they could. Make the weapons and armor experimental, and have smugglers slice them or Hack them.

Imagine giving a smuggler the ability to shut down a sentry droid by slicing it and maybe placing a restraining bolt on it. Your faction attacks the super spiffy combat droid just stands there till someone repairs it. (hehe too much fun)

If you think that this has any merit to it or you would like to comment about improvements, reply here.

PS: A couple of people suggested Restraining bolts and Memory wipes (oh and uncle owen suggested taking them to Anchorhead not Mos Eisley) These function should be a DE option. Buy bolts from novice DEs and bring your bot to a master DE to have its memory wiped.

one adendum to the post I made. Hybred classes and DE's would be included in the Light Combat Droids. Seems only fair that smugglers and such should have access to them.

Or accually you could make a combat droid, just for the rebellion! Just like the At-St with similar stats so rebels have some kind of power thing like At-st. Well I guess this would mess up the "balance"....BAH! so nm.

I do agree on the ideas you have they may need to be tweaked a little but at leats the Droid Engineer would be able to be a usable profession once again. I am so sad that droids are not that much in the game since the REAL Starwars movie from the very first scene started with R-2 D-2 and C-3 PO. This was to be to a Star Wars game and no droids very disappointing so far.

Just my two cents
