Hey everybody!

Im a new DE, and today i made my first R5 unit (!!!) Then i wondered... ... Why cant R5s be named R5-M2 or something like that???

It would be much more cooler to have a R5 named R5-M2 than a R5 named Shoe-Box (my droids name)

Why?

Basically because the name filter for droids is the same as the player name filter, so that means No numbers (to stop names like 'I r0xx0r u' etc) and no star wars character names-Han Solo, luke Skywalker etc

Personally I think itsa pity they dont change the droid name filter to allow numbers,it'll give it a more Star Wars feel, but somehow I doubt its a pressing concern to the Devs.

Well, why can't they assign them random designations like they do with the helper R2 units? Have a tamed droid come out "R2-B1" or whatnot instead of "an R2 unit." Even better if the droid could keep their designation, and have their name show up "[R3-X4] Scamper" for example...

At this point, I think getting the droid naming rules changed should be one of our top priorities. It is far and away the biggest problems my customers have with their droids.

I couldn't agree more... it's a vital part of the "Star Warsyness"

/agree

and if changing the filter is problematic, mightion's suggestion seems like an excellent alternative.

Yeah I wish the name filter was more relaxed with punctuation symbols.

Isn't the apostrophe allowed? Couldn't you have R5'M2 even though you can't have R5-M2? If so, it's better than nothing.

[edit]: Ahh, can't have the 5. Overlooked that when I thought about the apostrophe. R'Five'M'Two just isn't the same. Sigh...

Cheers,

Martek

If we want this, it might be weeks worth of work. And that's when they can get us the schedule for a change of this size.

It's one of those 'If we really want this to change, we can move it up the Top 5 / Top 20 list' and see what happens.

I do agree that naming is an issue...but seems mostly secondary to the functionality. I get more gripes about paint time still...

Note: I should mention...paint kits are selling quite well for me.

Oh that's a point can you name protocol, medical and repair droids?? I tried naming my repair droid and he wasn't taking the bait so to speak. But i remember ages ago at the start one of my mates had a medical droid named Bob, so surely the same should apply for repair droids.

I'm everywhere today
