Thread: I've just hit Novice Droid Engineer and I'm lost: I can't figure out how anything works.
I'm browsing and searching this board trying to get basic information and I'm not finding it, so I'm asking this question:
Where can a find some BASIC documentation regarding the droid engineering profession and how the droids work.
I worked my butt off to get to Novice Droid Engineer and I've discovered that I can't do anything useful at all.
What they heck is the MSE-6 droid for?
I give it a item storage module and it holds 1 item (useless)
I give it a data storage module and it says it has capacity for 20 items, but I cannot move anything from my data pad to the droid. What DOES this data storage module actually hold? I doesn't hold schematics, that is for certain. I've tried draggin every schematic I own into the thing and nothing ever happens.
What the heck does *low power* mean??? Every MSE-6 droid I've crafted starts saying that to me about 15 minutes after I take him out and refuses to respond to any order other than "store" from that point on.
I try to use a droid battery on the driod that is saying it is low on power and I am told that the droid doesn't have a power source, or some other nonsensical message.
What I'm concluding based on this is that MSE-6 droid have a life span of about 10-15 minutes and are completely and totally useless after that time is passed. What the heck? How is this profession suppossed to work?
All the holocron tells me is that the droid engineer is an integral part of the star wars galaxies universe.
That's a lie.
My droids don't do anything useful at all.
I'm not looking for FAQ's on how to get resources and what price points to set for my droids. I just want very basic information about what this profession actually can do. And what these basic error messages mean. Why my data storage modules hold nothing. Why my MSE-6 droids are ALWAYS low on power, yet every attempt to charge them ALWAYS fails?
HELP! This profession makes no sense and has no documentation!
There's a post stickied that has links to a FAQ and other helpful posts. I'd suggest you start there. They are very helpful to DE's and non-DE's alike.
As for trying to recharge the droid, you'll need a droid battery. They are a schematic granted in the artisan tree, so you should have it.
The data module only holds manufacturing schematics (for a factory) so they are practically useless.

It has no special purpose beyonf what any other droid can do.

You are giving it a level 1 item storage module. You can stack them for greater effect, up to 10 items, which is what a single level 6 module provides.

Currently, data storage modules can only hold factory schematics. Up to 150 for level 6 modules.

*low power* means exactly that. It's batteries have run out. You need to give it another battery. The animation is just like feeding a critter pet. Keep a supply of batteries around if you plan to use your droids. They consume them rather quickly.

Select "recharge" from the droid radial menu when you have a battery in your inventory

No argument there. Droids were poorly handled in the game design. Expect major changes around Jan-Fed patches.

You biggest selling droid will be the one with level 6 equivalent medical module capability. This allows a person to heal with greater efficiency (110%) and to heal wounds outside of a camp or hospital.
The other big sellers are the crafting modules. Droids can be mobile personal crafting stations.

It has a great deal of documentation and instruction, but this profession is both complex, and illogical, making it difficult to understand.
I've checked all the stickied posts. None of them gives answers to the questions that I asked.
As for batteries: As I said in my post, I've tried using my batteries many times to recharge my MSE-6 droids.
It never works.
I am always told that the target "does not have a power source", and am thus never able to recharge them.

When you get a "does not have power source", it means you don't have a droid battery in your main inventory.
Like I said, I've got the droid batteries. I select the radial menu and I'm told that the target does not have a power source. I've tried it over and over again so many times that I can't even begin to count.

From what you guys are saying, what I am doing SHOULD work.
It does not.
Where is this documentation? The manual hasn't one word of documentation on this. The in game help has no documentation either. There are lots of FAQ's and third part guides, but none of them is complete or concise.
no. I do not have a crate of batteries. I've got two batteries that I made myself. and no they weren't in a back pack either.
I understand what the message means (though that's NOT what it says!) But the fact remains that I've got the batteries, there not in my back pack and it doesn't work.
I'm going to destroy the batteries and make new ones and try again next time I play.
i'm afraid to tell you that that is indeed what a droid with low power should say if you try and recharge it without a battery.
The steps work for everyone else, i doubt there is a bug preventing them from working for you.
Call the Droid
Click on hold on the droid until the radial menu comes up
Select recharge from the radial menu
If you have a droid battery in your main inventory and are close to the droid, it will be recharged.
There is nothing else anyone can tell you.
Make sure what you have crafted is the generic Item: droid battery that requires about 10 metal and 5 low grade ore.
if you play on kettemoor i'd be happy to use my power droid to recharge it for you.
