I was just wondering if it was possible to make use of a creature harvesting droid if you are a non-scout.

No. You have to be a scout to harvest with a droid that has a harvesting module.

Unfortunately yes .. I tested this with my crafter character.I thought I had read somewhere that if you had a item storage module installed as well the droid would harvest whether or not you were a scout and store it but I guess I read it wrong.
