I've decided to attempt what I call the "Droidcan Industries Apprenticeship Program" or DIAP for short. Basically I take new DE's and bring them in under my tutelage. I teach em basic droid configs and module types, give them the jist of what matters in creating droids and modules, and give them goals to try and better themselves. I also train em when they need to find someone willing to teach them their boxes.
Another thing I have done with this is allowed the Apprentices to use shops, factories and the like for their own use in helping them get their feet wet. So far I have one apprentice who was thrilled I asked and employed the idea upon him. So far its been working quite well. Not only do I mentor to him, but I cooperate and expand my ideas upon him. We arent really master/apprentice but more like partners. Im hoping this idea gets working better so that I can spread DE love across the galaxy
Also, I wanted to post to get thoughts and feedback from my fellow DE community.

It is definitely in the spirit of Role Playing. If the two of you are having fun and receiving mutual benefits i say keep on doing it. The use of your factories and your shop is real nice of you. I remember being a novice crafter seeing that componet that needs two identical what ever from a factory crate and of course being new not having the credits or acces to a factory.

A long time back now, I took a fledgeling DE under my wing and oftered him my tips of the trade, bought droid subcomponents off of him, and eventually gave him free run of pretty much everythign I had. Eventually, I moved over to Test Center and he became a Bio-Engineer and later left the game. I really enjoyed having an Apprentice to help out with orders and generally helping out with stock.
/salute Dremon from Shadowfire.
Sorry, stroll down memory lane there.
An Appreticeship program is very useful in our profession, especially since the subcomponenets do not need to be of quality. This allows the junior DE the chance to earn a few credits and learn much about his chosen trade. I really wish that more of the 'older DE' crowd would do something like this, since it helps all of us out in the long run, by creating a more knowledgeable builder, which also leads to a more knowledgeable customer base. It also helps out some with price balancing and would reduce the number of people that come to this forum to ask how much they should charge for X droid.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

That is a great thing your doing, how I wish there was someone on my server that would take me under their wing.

This was a big common thing to be seen back at the very release of the game. Alot of crafters where taking up mentors and such very earily off where they helped with factorys and harvesters and such. This lasted a few good months before everyone sort of branched off and most of the game became solo/self running.

I have an apprentice and so far its been working out for us. I gave him his first test saturday (Its due today)
He has to make the sub components for a droid stim a and I have to assemble them. If I can get them above 800 energy with 18 charges, he gets an A grade
Also, I wrote up a list of info on how im running this. I'll haveta spoofread it and redo some tings, then I may share

I have a couple of people that I give advice to fairly regularly, plus share resources with, as well as surveying locations. Much nicer to get along then not.
