Thread: Going DE is a Full Time Job!

So here I sit, happy as a clam supplying droids to the masses, and finally getting an itch to try another profession like Creature Handling.

But the hard reality sets in that I don't have enough skill points to even get a Novice level. I started butchering Merchant skills to make room, but even that isn't enough. And I finally realized something: If you want to be a self-supporting Droid Engineer, you be fully dedicated to it.

For instance, the DE class relies heavily on a Master Artisan to get needed electronic components, so I can't touch that. I also need a lot of skills with Merchant in order to hold all the *%&#ing components I need to mass-produce what I need. And I also need a certain amount of personal combat skills so I can defend myself out in the harsh, cold world (maybe this is my own crutch, who knows), and CH definitely can't substitute that.

Ok, so maybe I just needed to vent somewhere. But this is the first time since I started playing that I am considering changing my entire profession.

Eh, maybe after JTL.

I hear your pain. Hence I had to get a second account. Lord help me.

Going DE is full time, and its nothing that can be done half way. ( tried that once, not a good idea) If your heart is set on building droids, then that is what you better be set in, cause you truely will have no time for anything else.

But it's worth it, if your strong enough to handle it.

Have to agree with you there. I also went so far as to get a 2nd account. Now I have a pure crafter and a smuggler/TKM/pistoleer.

Aside from the extra cost of the 2nd account, it works out great. Depending upon my mood, crafting or combat, I log in the appropriate account and have a great time.

Having both options really keeps the game fresh and fun. I just wish you could do it without buying the extra account (plus the cost of another copy of the game itself)!

I guess $30/month isn't bad in comparison to other options. Going to the movies twice would cost more than that (got to pay for the wife to go too you know). One round of golf costs much more too. etc

Well you could use your own droids to help defend while u drop harvesters.

Or rely on external Master Artistans to help supply you with the MA items or schematics. The MA items aren't really a problem, just that they just add to the garguantan amount of resources we DEs have to handle daily.

I'm only a novice droid engineer, but I feel the same way. I didn't go as far as to buy another account. I just made a character on a different server.

i was thinking about this since i have put off mastering de till i mastered some other professions that i am near mastering (it just seems like a waste to me to be near master and not finish, kinda like dropping out of school a few months before graduation). anyway i was thinking that i could just make a 1000 schematics, (no not really a thousand but a lot) and then tuck them into my droids storing them then drop artisan. would i be able to use the schematics without master artisan? thats the problem i have with my plan im not sure if i need master artisan for those components. i hardly ever use my artisan skills for anything else nowadays, lord help me.

I think my problem is I'm a control freak, and I want to reply on myself for all the artisan components, and reply on myself to defend myself. So it's partially my fault. Now, how and I going to fit Shipwright and pilot skills in there...

Yes. You can use the schematics without Master Artisan.

Just make sure you stockpile enough of the resources you'll need to use them........
