Thread: How about some Pit Droids? Wouldn't you like to repair that (Disabled) AV-21 vehicle?
The Pit Droid would perform vehicle repairs in the field. It would be a disposable droid with a set number of charges based on quality of the droid. Each use would take a vehicle from any damaged state or Disabled and return it to full working order*.
The secondary purpose of this droid is easily explained. When the game designers state the need for a 'money sink,' e.g. Vehicle Garages, the Droid Engineers watch all the credits going by. They tentatively raise a hand and say, "Uh...can I have some of those credits?"
- Any character should be able to use this droid to repair their vehicle or somebody else's (without permission?).
- Repairs should take about 15-60 seconds and be accompanied by the noise and animation of the Pit Droid (most of which you can steal from the movies).
- Repairing damage with a Pit Droid acts as a mobile Vehicle Garage in terms of cost to the player. This retains the 'money sink' property of vehicle repairs.
- Wishlist - doing a mobile vehicle repair causes an animation of a delivery droid flying in with the repair parts needed.
- (Optional) Repairing a vehicle from Disabled reduces the total HP of the vehicle by 2-50%, repairing from damaged reduces the HP total by 1-25%. This will cause people to eventually replace their vehicles, making certain Master Artisans happy.

- Added 8/2004 - Repairing from Disabled condition only works at a Garage. This prevents field recovery of Disabled vehicles (you can still get stranded).

Thank you kindly gentlemen. Anybody else, comment?
Interested in thoughts also on what such a droid should cost - should it generally be more or less expensive to use a Pit Droid to repair your vehicle?
Personally, I'm thinking that the cost of the Pit Droid should average around the cost to repair your Swoop from 1/2 way down at a Garage.

wouldn't this eliminate the need for garages?

To keep garages Usefull and what not make it heal 1/5 the damage or only 100 - 400 pts depending on the Experimentation. this would make it a greatkit for a tight spot .. i know i would keep one on me![]()
And That way the devs can keep a money sink in the game we get a usefull item to sell Its what star wars is about and just plain cool

TK - Pass this one to corispondent forum please ?
Also to ensure garage use, make the "pit droids" not usable within a city limit that has a garage.
I like this idea. Garages basicallycharge the players per point of damage to a vehicle's condition. Droids, I would imagine, would be a flat cost based on the DE's opinion of his/her labor and material rather than the vehicle's condition. To keep players from running their vehicles into the ground, past the point where the garage costs outweigh a droid's cost (causing droids to make garages implausible), an incentive to keep their vehicles in top condition might prove attractive. Those who render proper upkeep to their vehicles will generally pay cheaper rates in a DIY garage scenario. For those whose vehicles have taken damage in combat far away from a city or have beaten them on long journies, it would behoove them to carry a few pit droids with them to repair their vehicles in the field and get them back up to top runningcondition.
One easily workableincentive to keep vehiclesproperly maintainedwould be to degrade a vehicle's performance (speed)proportionally with its current condition. A swoop bike at 50% condition will run at 50% of its top speed. Decay rates might need to be tweaked a little to make this fact of life a bit more palatable.
Disabled vehicles might be repaired with a number of pit droids or with a pit droid working in combination with a garage.
My X34 and my bike were destroyed by some terrorist rebel scum last night (though they did purchase items in many of my city's fine shops. Thank you rebel scum!)
So, anyway, after the foofarah and the jokes about people's mothers were told, everyone came out of the cantina to go and use our brand new garage.
Player garages will not fix disabled vehicles.
Yup. Had to use the shuttle bug.
Therefore, this presents an excellent opportunity when the shuttle bug is gone. Pit droids would be able to expend 2 charges to pull a vehicle up to 1/5 from disabled.
That would be a viable item to sell. It would allow player garages to be useful in factioned cities (we always get our bikes destroyed ) as repair, but also allow DE's to sell an actually useful item. Field repairs. Give the things a max of5 charges each.
At 5k a piece, I could sell these all day long. Garages would still be cheaper for regular repairs, and the disabled vehicle problem would be an opportunity for us.
