Thread: Debate re-hash #2 Droid Engineers storing more than 5 droids

So I started one of my favourite debates the other day about Droid Engineers being able to call more than 1 droid it only seems right to bring up my other favourite debate

Should Droid Engineers have the ability to store more than 5 droids? Should the amount of droids stored in a datapad depend on your Droid skills? Should the function of the droid depend on the amount able to be stored? I.E. only 3 droids with combat modules but an extra 5 without?

Personaly, I think a Master Droid Engineer should be able to store 10 droids. A Novice Droid Engineer should be able to store 6 and the remaining 4 be gained throughout the tree's.

I personaly would like to own as many of the different chasis as i can while still keeping a spare slot free so i can program customer droids.

I think itwouldn't be too much to ask to at least allow Droid Engineers to be able to have at least 1 of each droid model they can make (not modulesor ADV and basic... just 1 of each model in general, up to the DE to decide if they want it to be an ADV or not).

I mean, it's not like Creature Handlers where there is a countless number of creatures out there for CH's to choose from. We only have a handful of models to choose from, and seeing as tho we are a merchant class anyways, having at least 1 of each model would help us to be able to show off our droids.

However, luckily for me, I really only need a couple droids myself. 1 combat droid (A DZ-70 since I don't have the skills to build probots yet, equipped with a trap module and creature harvestor module), 1 crafting droid (a treadwel advanced droid with a Weapons & Droids crafting station), 1 music droid (R5 advanced with a record / playback module and an electric fog module). That's all that I have right now. I would like to build a structure maintenence droid, and bring back my houses and harvestors. I guess having a repair droid wouldn't hurt either, so I could repair other people's droids.

But I'm a Droid Engineer for myself more than I am for business. So I just build a new droid for myself when I get an upgraded module or model available. And for the characterI have, I only need a couple droids.

I definatley think it's a good idea, and I agree with it. I just happen to be in a position where at the moment, it doesn't personally effect me, because 5 is actually enough for me to have all the droids I need. But I know that DE's who are more hardcore than me (I don't even experiment or worry about what materials I use) would have more use for extra droids.

Now THIS one I agree with. Yet BE's should be able to store more pets as well.

No other profession is limited with how many of their "wares" they can own at a time. They have ways to store and display their product.

DE's and BE's should get a couple of extra slots, about 3 seems right.

I'd love to have this, bug again you've got to take into account item storage and data storage (yea, its not all that useful, but it still has to be taken into account). Giving DE's extra storage space would be a huge benefit against other crafters, much more so than getting to call an extra droid.

This would probably be easier to implement than the calling 2 droids at once. (I supportboth ideas BTW)

Master Creature Handlers can have 20 pets! Give us 8 or 10 at least!

Yep the item and data storage is definitely the one big issue that arrises with DE being able to store more droids. How can it be over come without too much work?

I guessone waywould to be to have a hard cap limit of the overal storage slots droids could have. I.E. overal, droids in your datapad could only store 50 items therefore even if you have 10 droids with 10 item storage only 50 items could be spread throughout that 10.

Ofcourse, the most sensible way is even easier than that:

Every item / data stored in a droid takes up space in your datapad as well as space in the module storing it. Therefore if done right, it would not be physicaly possible for a player to store more than a certain amount of items in a droid as it would overload their datapad.

I think this one is a bad idea... I don't know about you but my datapad tends to be pretty full... I like to keep track of a lot of different vendors, shops, people's houses, etc. At any given time my datapad is at something like 95/100 space. I'd be lucky if I could store 1 or 2 droids that had storage at this point.

Uhuh Jenden I hear ya, but thats the payoff you'd have to make. More droids, less space.

Honestly, I think this could happen, even taking into account Item Storage and Data Storage.

Lets say we got 3 extra droid slots at Master level.

First Item Storage. We would have 30 extra items.

1. Our profession is the most crate and sub-componant intensive in the game. Were up there in resources as well.

2. When using our Droidsmith Toolbelt, we can't use backpacks. Limiting our carrying capacity.

These 2 items have been big complaints from DE's all the time. These are minuses to our profession that do not exist in others. They could take time to fix these, but that wouldn't fix us only being able to own 5 of our product. By letting us have more Droids in our datapad, it would actually be able to address 3 issues at once.

Data Storage. We could hold an extra 450 points worth of schematics.

1. Currently if you want too, you can hold 850 points worth of Schematics, if you that isn't enough, you have a problem.

2. I am aware of any other uses for the Data Module as well, and having extra Data Space in your pad just wont matter.

So basically, Data Storage is a non-issue. It's a small plus but not one that would really matter.

Ok I just have to ask. Have you ever actually found yourself carring more than 30 schematics at once?

having more than 5 droids wont give us a great benefit, so why not put it in? Architects can make their own houses, a small house can hold 125 items. with 10 droids holding 10 items each we could only hold 100 items. as much as a factory, I IMO dont think its gonna be one of those things that isnt gonna make a great influx of DE's, even though an influx of DE's would be greatly appreciated, On naboo, scyllia, I have only seen about 10 DE's, I have hovever seen well over 50-60 jedi.

The problem isn't so muchjustifying us gaining extra storage space, its justifying why other professions DON'T. Bio Engineers, for example, would tell you that THEY have the most storage-intensive profession because nothing they make can be placed in crates so their houses and inventories are filled up with samples.

However, I've had the luxery of being an Architect, Tailor, Droid Engineer, Chef, Weaponsmith AND Armoursmith throughout the 16-ish months I've been playing and I can honestly tell you that out of all those crafting professions Droid Engineer requires the most variety of resources and components/sub components. Don't confuse what I'm saying.. Architect requires the largest amount of resources, but its all the same type of resources just large quantities. Droid Engineer on the other hand requires atleast one different type of resource for nearly every module type.

That added with the bandoleer... My inventory is always full now. I can't even carry my suit of armour with me becauseI lack the inventory space because I'm loaded down with hundreds of different types of resources, component crates and ofcourse can't wear my packs.
