Thread: Permadeath Alternative

Hi -

Just wanted to get my two cents in on permadeath. Sorry if someone else has already come up with this idea.

ON CREATURES

Creatures need permadeath. Everything that lives eventually dies. Creatures should be able to heal their HAM, this mimics our existance - get a cut, it heals. Since extreme injury will impair the individual for the rest of their life, creatures should degrade as they are used in combat to the point where they are no longer viable for that use. In summary, creatures should be consistent with these basic facts of life.

ON DROIDS

Here's my solution. Droids get massive HAMS - they are made of metal, this makes sense. Droids are repairable, this also makes sense. Droids, on their own, do not regen their HAM (not even slowly) - I don't believe in self-healing machines. This massive pool of HAM eventually drops until the owner gets them repaired. If it drops too far (to zero) the droid incaps until it gets repaired by a DE.

Oh, and when a broken an battered droid is presented to a DE for reapir, that gives the DE the opportunity to sell the customer a new, upgraded droid rather than replacement. Makes good business sense.

Finally damage level across droids and creatures need to be normalized. I had a customer turn down my probot (no surprise there) because his low level pet could do more damanage and not die. I think this in exactly what was predcicted in this forum.

I think that if the devs don't adopt some concept of creatures being mortal then we may as well craft some duct tape and stick some modules on them and do away with DEs all together.

Thoughts?

Its good to see people brain storming bro. Not bad ideas in my book(but i'm not the smartest wookie on Rori either)...

I think we are all just getting tired.

The duct tape idea is interesting. You could craft duct tape with modules, and then attach them to yourself. You can only do this in a town or camp. This way you wont have to have that annoying beeping thing following you around, and you still get functionality. If you get shot, the duct tape mysteriously vanishes and the modules disappear into the void, never to be seen again.

I believe this would greatly enhance the playing experience.

Yeah...this has been thought of already - ESPECIALLY the creatures dying...it makes no sense that droids are temporary while creatures are eternal. I'm beginning to wonder if the devs play this game at all, or if they live in some parallel universe where giant space llamas fly and chickens lay eggs filled with bacon.

Or at least one where 'steel' is really cloth - it makes more sense if youreplace the word 'droid' with 'marionette'.
