I am not a Droid Engineer but these are changes that could make the game better for all

I don't need a protocol droid, I need a droid that understand the binary language of moisture harvesters -- Lars purchasing C3PO.

This is composed of another thread that was going and I decided to clean it up. (Thanks Midnight Angel)

We should be able to program droids to take care of our farms, and generators.

Here are some examples:

A console system that is the size of a crafting station that goes into your home. From there you add a module, created either by a DE or an Architect, that goes into your harvesters/generators. Each of the units that have a module will remotely update their status to the console in your home. The console should then allow you to monitor their progress and hopper capacity, their maintenance credits and energy pools. You could even add a maintenance/power cost to this console.

Now this would be the basic model that would allow those who have a large number of harvesters to monitor them a little more efficiently. They would still have to travel and load credits/power and take out materials.

Then you would have the following upgrades that can go with it.

  • A protocol or R2 droid that can keep you updated on the status of your systems through E-mail

  • A Binary Load Lifters, to retrieve materials. This would be done by popping the unit and doing database queries to cut down on the extra physical activity in the game world and so as not to cause additional server stress.

  • A repair droid that can be sent out like the above lifter droid to deposit power in your units. Units of power would be deposited into a hopper on the console and the droid will retrieve power from it.

  • A maintenance pool system on the console where you can dump lets say 40k in credits into it and all of the selected structures with the above module will automatically withdraw their maintenance fee from it.

All of the droids and the console can pull their own maintenance fees from the console system and will not operate if the console runs out of creds. You can make all the options expensive to obtain and run, but also have high maintenance costs. I am not saying to make it impossible to afford, but to make it a viable option for crafters to cut down on some of the work.

  • Maybe you could introduce a tax on droids by using this, kind of like an ID tag tax, if they don't have it they will be captured by jawas -- or whatever planet you are on and a mission will pop up in your data pad to rescue the droids. (and minus 1/2 the resources)

  • This will promote droid engineers, a money sink, and a possibility of player interaction - hire a band to complete the mission with you.

You would not be able to get instant resources it should take time buy going this route compared to you getting them yourself.

How it would work.

The game would have to do is run a simulation program. Just calculate travel time and whatever else the devs need to add in there.

Kind of like the shuttle that goes around the planet. It doesn't actually fly around the planet, it just calculates the time between appearances and spawns above the shuttle port. The same would be for the droids, the system would calculate travel time, wear and tear on the droid, etc, and then when the droid comes back he will pull power and creds for maintenance from the pool.

The idea behind it is to alleviate a little of the menotinous work on the high end crafters since none of the beginner crafters would be able to afford a system like this yet. The player would still have to survey, set up the harvesters, and take them down when the resource shift hit. They would also be responsible for the high maintenance costs of such a convenience.

Now this will cause two things to happen.

  • The cost of materials may go up a bit and it would create a slightly larger money sink for those who make a profession out of crafting and/or mining. And for that they get a little more convenience in the game.

  • It helps out the architects and the Droid Engineers by giving them something new they can craft and sell.

Why... oh why do so many people still feel compelled to make these (essential the same) suggestions? Did you not get the in-game e-mail from the developers? The Droid Engineering Profession is being removed from the game entirely... start transferring your skill points now to Creature Handling.

Looks good on paper, honestly does. But I would like to see what is currently implemented working properly first before this type of mountain is climbed. It sends shivers down my spine thinking about how bugged this type of implementation would end up and how long it would take to get it "working as intended".
