Can someone explain to me how this is done? I saw one in a shop, and was told that it was master level. Is this true?

You saw one in a shop? Sounds like a Frame, not a complete droid.

While I have not tried to color a C3PO frame since the patch butI have seen these before.

Unfortunatly it is most likely a vendor you can get in the merchant profession and nota painted C3PO droid.

I'm sorry. Yes the one I saw was a FRAME. But it was silver. I only have been able to make gold (as well as my Master DE friend). Can anyone confirm Silver is a selectable color for 3p0 frames?

Before the patch silver was NOT a colour choice for protocol droids... in fact there WAS no choice at all.

Ummm, still isnt an option for me... I think you saw a vendor that someone named something cute for fun. Have built 2 protocols today and no color choices come up.

I am a master merchant also (wow, 2 broken professions. w00t) and the vendor protocol is pink.

The dev's have played around with colors a lot in the past few months. There were even some colors that don't exist anymore. I know I made a R4 with a gray base color instead of the normal white. Its possible that at one point Protocol droid frames did have different color options and this person made one and still has it hanging around.

As it has been said though, currently they are only gold even with the customization tool.

As a master merchant, you get a protocol droid as a choice for one of your vendors. Probably random though, as I've been given very limited colourization options with my vendors...
