Thread: Weekly Report: No news is ... no news? (Sep 26, 2003)

Ok, although I share with you guys as soon as I hear something I figured I would take the time once a week to reiterate things I have said, post some new ideas and compile all news as I have heard it for the week that effects us. Some of this you will have heard already as I am not only using my discussions with the DEVs.

First of all, there is no major news directly related to us as DEs. I have not been told of any bug fixes, or definite roadmap. What I was told was said by Q or Holo a few weeks ago in public so I have no problem repeating that it was told to me again on the correspondent forum: Combat Droids are on the top of the list of things they want to impliment for us, aside from bug fixes. The bug fixes will be done on Friday's, which will be the DEvs bug fix day. Again that was said by Q in public so I can repeat it here. Once they impliment Friday as profession bug fix day we should see our bug list fall drastically.

It is of my opinion , and not based in hard facts, that new content, not included in that are bug fixes, will probably be a few months away. Q said in public via chat that Public Cities, mounts and vehicles were promised to be ready shortly after launch so they are making that a prioirty. Again, this was not told to me directly or even hinted at but putting two and two together I think our DEV is working on this. I think SOE is under immense pressure from Lucas Arts, and since they pay the bills .. well you know.

It is small news, I know. And nothing to drastic, but I think if we are realistic here we are looking at several months before we are viable again. That is not good news, only realistic news. SOE made a promise to deliver player cities, mounts and vehicles and they are making that their number one priority.

I want the same things you guys do. But since I am not paid by SOE to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy and not cancel their acocunts, I will restate it and be blunt. We are months away from being fixed. And NOTHING we do will change that. These DEVs ARE busting their ass. Hard.

This ride for me is like being on a Riding lawnmower ... I cant make the **edit** thing go any faster than it is, but at least I can help guide it and choose what grass to cut (Ok a better analogy is I am like a bitchy housewife yelling at her husband who is cutting the grass, telling him where to cut ...)

Eventually the lawn will be cut but it will be a long ride. My suggestion? Find another profession and explore a bit for now. Or even shelve your account for a few months. We will be fixed. Just not tommorow. Yelling, canceling your account for good, threatening to, or even flaming wont do any good. A one legged man can only hop so fast.

And I want to point out once more .. any time frames mentioned are my opinion gathered from many different resources, threads and topics. no DEV has told me directly.

Sigh....

Now even our correspondent is being negaitve about the profession. I just wish everyone would be so bitchy about it and live and work within what we already have. I'm not even a master (3,3,0,4) and I'm making tons of cash and XP. In fact I haven't done a single grinding action for the past 3 weeks.

And, as far as bug fixes are concerned, you might want to look at the 3 or 4 threads that have started today about the customisation fixes on TC. A "bug fix" is pretty wide definition by SOE. As a professional developer, that sort of action I would classify as a new feature, not a bug (ie adding new tools etc).

Sure we may not be getting new droid types, but there are visible fixes coming through the pipeline. Please, take the correspondent's advice and leave the profession. More business for me and I'm enjoying the hell out of it!

Thanks for the nice report. I was figuring on the same lines as you that it will probably be many months before we get any real attention.

The sentence should have read ...

"If the wait is driving you crazy My suggestion isfind another profession and explore a bit for now. Or even shelve your account for a few months. We will be fixed. Just not tommorow."

Sometimes the truth is neither positive or negative, simply the truth.

Thanks for the continued work on our behalf even though it sounds frustrating.

One question I have, is do you have a feel for how Droid responsibility is handled by the devs? Just kinda curious. It seems like our pet behavoir crosses with CH a good deal, and the crafting aspect seems lumped in with Artisan. Is there one person who's really responsible for DE or are they spread very thin?

I'd heard our developer is responsible for *all* of Artisan, and if they're working on vehicles and structures for cities perhaps that's why they haven't been able to do much for DE.

Of course if in a few weeks we get the ability to make vehicles, that'd be pretty cool... =)

Sintrosi is doing a good job, and I thank her for that input. I do want to make one quick point though.

Even if Sintrosi is showing a little bit of negativity, why is this wrong or unwarranted? It's not wrong at all, in fact, I think it shows to the rest of us just how much she's in touch with the community she's representing / corresponding. We all have the right to show our displeasure with how the DE profession and droids have beenwoefullyneglected and ignoredby SOE, she is not and should not beexempt from this.

Personally, I'd rather have someone come at me, shrug their shoulders and say, "I toldSOE the facts, the ball is in their court now, and I'm not very happy with their progress..." than to havesome sort of dancing stooge singingsome rendition of Ethel Merman's "Everything's Coming Up Roses". Bleach...

Keep chugging along. It makes me happy knowing that someone is trying to say. Even if you can not say it or no one hears you. Great Work and please just post even if you have no news it allows for the sun to shine a tiny bit.

Thanks for the update, Sintrosi!

I appreciate the clear line you draw between facts, rumor, and opinion, and also the way you tell us where facts and rumors came from and how you formed your opinions. Keep up the great work!

I'm a Master Droid Engineer now and like many others I'm frustrated by all the bugs, but I didn't choose the profession to make money. I chose it because I think making droids is cool! I look forward to the day when the bugs are fixed, but that's because there will be more demand for my droids when they're working properly. Money is easy... you'll never make as much money selling droids as you can by just running a well-constructed artisan loop, so just make droids for the fun of it.

Thank you for the honest update Sintrosi, there' too many "fanboi" posts all over the boards since criticism isn't allowed anymore and the floggings will continue until morale improves.

Sintrosi - You are great!

You know, I will not be bi*ching anymore. All I have wanted all along is someone to tell me the truth. The truth being what the state of the game is in and the DE profession in general. Too bad SOE couldn't tell us, would have been nice if they were honest with us and treated us like the paying customer we are.

Thank you very much for your honest opinion. We can all stop thinking the DEVS "are holding something back" or just not talking about it, something they may put out there in the "next big patch". It is obvious if they even had something close to implement in the game that would be telling us. Keeping us going. Instead silence and that is the worst.

Thanks again Sintrosi. You have been greatest, SOE should be paying you for your work, as it is the best I have seen yet from anyone associated with this game on these boards.

Thanks again,
Ambassador Frito

And while we wait, I'll continue to sit here and try to maintain the growing list of problems with the profession.

Thanks for the update, nothing new... but at least it's something.

Pretty cool one of the recent things Holo (maybe Q) said. He said they are actually attracted to making droids more powerful than creatures, so that the game turns into "Droid Wars" instead of "Creature Wars" because at least it would be more Star Warsie. Woohoo! Hot **edit**! Droid Wars may just be fun.
