Thread: Drashk: Battery power and Paint life...now that the Devs are hearing our cries.
Can we get some feedback from the team on the largest two day-to-day annoyances that both DEs and clients seem to have with droids?
1) Battery life
2) Paint 'life'.
I know you know the issues and points, so I won't get into a huge diatribe (for once).
All I want to know is if we DEs can get these items on the table FOR SURE for Publish 7.
If so, what kind of possibilities might they be inclined to work on?
I'd personally vote for:
1) A droid power "meter" (progress indicator) of some kind. It's a big beef that many have that they can't see when their droid will need it's next battery installed. I don't mind batteries and most clients seem to accept them. We just need a convienent way to see what's happening instead of having to prompt our droids with 'dummy' commands (to see if it says "Low Power" or not).
2) Battery life for a single battery is simply doubled. Done. (This can, and likely should, be tweaked over time).
3) Paint life: I think that paint SHOULD fade. However, 20 'calls' is simply too short for most users. I think that a droid's paint job needs to last most average players for about 6-8 days, give or take....maybe longer.
I would think that maybe 60-75 'calls' would be a good starting off point, which we could tweak from there.
Thoughts? Comments? Intrepretive Correspondent Rambling?

Respectfully,
I'm all for battery life being doubled, but paint should be permanent. Why? because we don't make any money with that tool anyway. If it was permanent at least we could make a buck painting droids. People don't want to pay anything with a limitation on the number of pulls they can make out of datapad.
People can always ask for a change of colors. Making it permanent doesn't hurt anything.

Please implement some change here. I sell most of my droids to crafters. As have been noted many times in this forum, the R3 with all crafting stations plus whatever extras are great sellers. I know the guildies I sell to call these droids all the time for special orders, schematic making sessions, or whatever several times a day.A couple people I know go through all 20 callsin a single day. Coloring for them isn't even a feature. I simply won't color someones droid every single day. This is rediculous, a simple time based amount is best I think. give them a month. Who cares how many "calls". Why penalize someone for using their droid a lot? A month is more than fair. Realistically who wants to repaint droids anyway? I would say make paint permanent, but thats just me. how much money can you make off that? 1K, 2K a paint job? its just not worth it. I'd rather just sell the droids and make the customer happy forever, let them comeback when they want changes.
Long story short, give me at least a month paint job, or better yet make it perm, and give me the option to repaint when they want new colors.

I'm already on it. I've made mention to these items a few times and now with vehicles having the same customizatoin fate as droids, it moer than likely won't be long before the Customization fade is changed.
As to the battery life, I made comment about it well beforeI became a glowie to QA and made a comment about having battery life tied in with experimentation - which he really dug and wrote it down as a suggestion. I've mentioned this a few times now, but haven't had a status report on it.
Something that can be looked at as a positive is a comment that QA made to me on Friday. He stated that DE should see a number of bug fixes between now and Publish 7. The statement was vague, but tied with the fact that there has been a few comments made by TH on the Correspondents fourms, it looks as if we should be seeing some improvements besides just combat content.
As always....I'll keep everyone posted as I get more information that I can pass along

I agree TK, but I must make my own little addition to your questions...
What about the droid repair pack? You know, we're having a huge discussion about combat droids, droid handler professions, CL10 pets, etc, etc, etc... but people fail to realize that this one addition to our profession might alter aspects to the ENTIRE discussion.
I'm just so aghast that people aren't harping on this more! How can we have a huge discussion about the future of combat droids and what not without this basic tool being addressed first? Example: If the repair tool were made DE only, it would signifantly alter this discussion (just an example, I'm not for this)...
Let's put some heat on this subject... CL10 probots might become seriously viable with this simple addition.

Oh, and make paint stick longer too.Sorry TK.
Good Point what good is a combat Droid if its been trampled black by a Torton or something. We can't repare the ones we have now.
Yea...this is pretty annoying too, to say the least.

Respectfully,
There are lots of annoying things to this profession. I would that the things that might make it cool were not planned for another.
