Thread: Solution for the droids that never die.
Simply put, enable a vitality decay upon calling system. Where essentially every time you call the droid, the vitality takes a hit. This will make the droid reconstruction kits a more viable commodity, and make it so that eventually, people have to buy new droids. Even if the droids lost 1 vitality point per call, this still alots to several hundred times that a droid may be called. Even if the devs set it to 10 calls per 1 vitality, it is still way better than the current system.
Im not sure if vitality is broken now, but it was not a while ago because I have several droids in datapad with less than 100 vitality.
It seems that vitality wont drop below 88. My droid has been at 88 vitality for quite awhile, and has been incapped at least 5 times since he first hit 88 vitality.
So for my LE repair at least, 88 seems to be the minimum, at least if you dont use vitality packs on them.

It's not incaps that drop vitality, it's deathblows.
I think the issue that many have here is that this type of decay is only placed upon "combat" models.
There really needs to be a working decay system that's applied to all droids (with extra 'stuff' for the combat droids).
Ever seen a Surgical droid in a Med center at anything but 100% condition? No?
That's cause they are apparently perfect devices that have no wear and tear. Not good.
This is, to me, the situation that needs to be addressed in the long run.

This is where hot-swappable droid modules would make sense. People get attached to their droids, and won't want to keep replacing their crafting or med buddy. But merely replacing the modules to refresh, upgrade, or improve one's droid maintains that sense of ownership while implementing reasonable decay.

Respectfully,
I know this. I just have trouble getting behind any type of droid decay when I think of how R2-D2 in the movies and books must be over 60-80 years old. Yes, I know very little in SWG follows canon religiously.
I've posted in the past how I'd prefer to see a system where after X amount of time, a part of the droid needs to be replaced... like a motive unit, an advanced droid brain, etc, in order to restore vitality. Imagine using a repair kit on a droid, and it says "This droid's motivator is burned out. A new Advanced Droid Motive system is needed to effect repairs". And if you have one in your inventory, the droid can be repaired.
I just don't like or agree with the idea that a droid should fall into a pile of irreparable junk just because a number reached zero.
I am one of those DE's who prefers not to keep a vendor stocked, because of simply not wanting to waste good and valuable resources on droids that most likely will not sell for months and months. And most of my business is ironically, repeat or referred business, because despite the time it takes to craft droids, I've always put in the extra effort to make sure the buyer got exactly what they wanted. And unfortunately like most DE's, most of my skill points are tied up in DE, Artisan, and Merchant, because you effectively need all three. The requirements are immense for DE, and the sales capabilities are limited at best.
I honestly think that if we can get the devs to change this system around, it will be helpful to every DE.
Now I'm a one who likes the hot-swappable modules idea
I also like decay for droids (or droid modules)
One thing I would say on this though, given the SOE track record on decay :
Be Very Careful What You Wish For . . . . it might happen - but not as you expect
Just a thought ![]()
Harvester, trapping and combat droid will decay, they're used in combat they decay like armor or weapons.
Droids with only utility droid don't decay, well, did your private carfting station, house, factory or harvester decay lately?
Mine didn't.
I don't see a problem with that, lots of people keep changing at least their secondary skills, so they need new droids anyway.
Besides, it'll start be a problem for me when every player has a droid that do all he needs. And that's not soon.
well,
first many sell to rediculous low prices and then want decay on everything.
well i actually like it that on Deathblows they get vitality loss but thats it.
i dont wish for more decay in this game everything decays at insane rates, well many things at least. but i am not happy with everything which would decay.
if u use an R-unit for crafting for example then it should not decay, darn learn the movies R2-D2 was hundred of years old. period.
