Thanks for the heads up. Never thought to look at the Structure Module Focusthread for this stuff. Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking about these things. Incase other people wander into this looking for current thoughts on the subject here's the link:

Was just thinking about the one thing I have always wanted my droids to be able to do: Retrieve Resources from my harvestors.

So my idea goes something like this:

Have a new module for droids that allows them to retrieve resources from the hopper of your harvestors. (Yes that part is: 'DUH!')

Have a 'Docking station' for the droid that you have to place in your house. This will be where he drops off the resources, and maybe where he recharges if you have batteries in it, or something to that extent.

Have the droid "live" in the docking station, he still takes up a droid spot in your datapad, but all he does is sit in the dockingstation. The reason I like this part is because this way the droid can go out and empty harvestors while you are offline.

Of course the whole idea of droids emptying harvestors brings up a few complications:

A. How far can a droid go to get to harvestors?

Not off world. (in my opinion this would be way too much to expect) They would have to stay on the same planet as their 'docking station.' Distance wise, I dunno. I honestly don't even know how far they can patrol... though I had a droid patrol all the way around my city once (I was very bored at the time). But then again if the Dev's wanted I would be happy to have the droid constantly sitting in this docking station and the idea of them going out to retrieve the resources every 5-10 (whatever) hours is simply implied.

B. Can I have an armed escort for my droid?

In my opinion I think these 'resource retrievers' shouldn't be subject to attack. Mainly 'cause the way things are right now I don't see how a person could line up droids to escort him (with non-CHs only being able to have one pet out at once and all). Or, again, the dev's could just have the droid sit there...

C. How would a droid know what harvestors to empty?

Maybe when you first set him up you have to walk him to every harvestor he is suppose to empty and, with the harvestor as your target, use the correct command. Maybe you will have to add your droid to the hopper list too.

D. I'm sure there where more, just I'm drawing a blank now

I'll be the first to admit that I don't read all the threadson the forums so this idea might be out there already, please let me know if that's the case. Also, let me know what you think of my post (but that should be a given, why else would I post this idea?)

Good idea, been thought of before. I invite you to look at the Focus Thread for our recently added Structure Maintenance Module. I think one of the best ideas to improve that module, encompasses your idea.

Currently the Maint Module just pays money into a structure. The expanded module would have a different function depending on which chassis it was installed in.

Maintenance- any droid, but possibly LE repair or WED treadwell could receive a time bonus.

Power- EG6 Power Droids. Power resource is converted into raw energy and stored in the droids Power Core, then distributed to the structures on the droids run.

Retrieval- Binary Load Lifters with a Maint Module and an Item Storage Module with free space could go, empty hoppers, and return with resource.

Gilack Mehoipou [Bloodfin]

Quintuple Master- Marksman/Squad Leader/Rifleman/Vortex Pilot/Politician

Made it before all hell broke loose.
