Thread: what is the best combat droid you can make?
The best combat droid I believe is the Advanced R3 with 6 combat mods and 2 lvl 6 armour plates. The one I'v had the most fun with is an Advanced probot with 3 combat mods, 2 auto heal mods, and 2 lvl 6 armour plates. But I think the LE repair droid makes the best tank, has the highest HAM, 1 combat mod the rest auto heal, and lvl 6 armour. Not much dmg there, but can take a beating.
There are two forms of droid assisted fighting, and the kind of droid you buy will be based on which you need. Based on your listed character in your sig one of these wont matter much to you, but I'm listing both for completeness.
Melee- A melee fight wants a droid to assist by functioning as added Damage over Time. For this a good combat loaded Probot or R3 adv is desired. Generally your droid will shoot from range while you tank, and the droids job will be to add dmg and help you kill faster.
Ranged- A ranged combatant wants a droid that will draw aggro and pin a mob in position. for this work, a droid with lots of HAM and low damage is desirable. Autorepair effectively increases a droids HAM, by healing every 10seconds. Probots have the advantage of dealing one point of dmg even when no combat modules are in place, whereas an R3 has to have at least 1 module minimum. This means each can hold 5 auto repair modules (a good rating will be 100+ and the closer to 125 the better). R3s win on HAM, but Probots win in terms of minimum damage. Lastly R3 can be set to fight in melee range, and this is much more useful for pinning mobs.
As to which model droid is better in pure combat, it depends on which is closer to maximum. Most DEs can make a 100+ combat module, and 6 of these will max out an R3. The better a DEs materials, the closer he can get to 110, and the closer he can get to maxing out the 5 slots available in a Probot. If you can find a Probot with a rating in excess of 525 approaching the 550 max, then it will be getting into the territory of a very good probot, and will outclass most R3s.
