Thread: Career DE question

Hi peeps,

I've just made 0002 DE by following the grind guide, however, I want to be a career DE. My question is this:

Should I continue the grind to get MDE in a few days, or take some time out to make lesser quality droids so I can 'learn as i go'?

My thoughts were this - continue the grind & then when i hit MDE, go back through ALL the scematics & make one of each of everything i can. This will also aid the learning process (I'll know what resources I'll need & what components for each bit).

I do have some constraints to add to my scenario - I am a guild leader (one of the biggest & most active on my server [FarStar]) so a lot of my time is taken up by that.

I realise this is a time consuming proffession, but I want to be a proffession that is fun, & what's StarWars without droids?

Simply, what do you guys think?

thanks

Hi,

Definitely grind up to Master as there's not too much of a market on our server for the lesser components!

Also, if you need any help or scarce resources i might have, feel free to send a /tell or email to Andola

I was a Master DE (by force of Holo) but liked it so much i started paying for 2 chars and my other one is now Master DE

I'd say making some of the droids and learning how things work is key. I've met a lot of "master" droid engineers out there that don't know the first thing about crafting droids, and all that ever gets them is a bad reputation for screwing over their customers since they don't know what they're doing. Ideally I say don't grind, but most people are too impatient for that. The next best thing is to stop at each skill you get and make all the new things you can and play with them (or if they're for a certain profession get a friend to play with them). Do this and you'll be much more successful.

First of all, something to remember is the fact that for a lot of our modules and many of our droids, experimentation doesn't matter one bit. Unlike weaponsmith or armorsmith, we can still make an sell many items as a non-master that will be just as good functionally as a master created item. A crafting module made by a MDE and a non-MDE will still do the exact same job just as well. BH droids will still perform exactly the same (as they're based on the BH's skill, not ours), Entertainer Effects modules will still produce the same effects, Merchant Barker modules will still bark, etc. So while I wouldn't say abandon the grind totally, it might be worth your time to step away from the grind for a bit and make some of the simpler droids with workable modules to sell. Having a few BH or crafting or entertainer droids up on the bazzar will help get your name out there, which is always a good thing.

Second, find yourself a friendly MDE who's willing to answer questions (or ask them here on the board). A customer is usually much more willing to come back if you answer "I don't know, let me find out for you" rather than "I don't know" or ignoring them.

Third, always remember: R2's, R3's, LE's and Probots take COMBAT Clusters, not general clusters, and you can put non-combat things in a combat cluster module. :-)

Everytime you fill a box of exp, stop grinding. Then pull out a crafting droid (or stand near a personal crafting station) and experiment with the new schematics you have access to. Get a feel for what resources you are going to need, and in what quantities.

If you grind your way up to MDE without doing this, once you reach MDE you will be lost. There are soooooooo many droid schematics, you wont know where to start or even what resources you need.

Do not worry about selling the droids or modules you make on the way up, look at it this way. You would have been grinding anyway, but by making the new schematics you recieve every level, you will be learning about your profession, and still make exp on the items you craft.

If you do it this way, you will learn as soon as you gain access to probot shcematic that you will need master artisan items. But if you grind your way up, you would be clueless to this, and not be able to make any of the most requested droids once you hit MDE.

So please, take time everytime you fill a box of exp, and learn the new schematics. You will be much more knowledgable about your profession once you hit MDE, and you will be able to answer you customers questions with confidence instead of a blank look.
