I bought an Advanced R2 off a DE'svendor yesterday, with a Food & Chemical Crafting module and an L6 Medical module. I tamed the droid, and lo it appeared before me. But there was a problem.

It was purple!

I asked my guild chat if anybody had a clue what was up with the coloring, and somebody suggested storing it and calling it again. It did. This time it was violet!

I went through a whole series of store/call pairs and every time I called it it was a different color -- red, orange, yellow, green, brown, grey -- but not once did it show up in the traditional and expected color of white and blue, much less stay that way.

How can I get this stupid thing to stop changing colors? The vendor in question said nothing about the color changes -- no warnings at all. Further, the DE who crafted it hasn't answered my email.

I'm hoping a more responsive DE can explain what's happening...

I think the astromechs may be exhibiting that color change thing now that droid coloring is available. I haven't really tested it because I color my astromechs first time I tame them.

What you'll need to do is find a DE on your server to color the droid. DE's can now make customization kits to color droids. I'm guessing that should stop the mad color changes. Keep in mind though that the color eventually fades (why, I haven no idea...).

Hope this helps.

I ran into this problem today while in coronet. Its becasue the DE colored his advanced droid chassis when creating the deed. That is still bugged however if the DE usings a customization tool that keeps the color permanate for about a week (depending on how many times you call the dorid)

The following droids will randomly change colour each they are called until they get customised by a DE (chasis colour has NO effect on the colour of the droid):

R5
R4
R3 - Note: The dome of an R3 defaults to "clear" and can not be painted by a DE (except for dome trim)
R2 - Note: The dome of an R2 defaults to "chrome" and can not be painted by a DE (except for dome trim)

The following droids will just use default colours each time they are called until they get customised by a DE (chasis colour has NO effect on the coour of the droid):

Power Droid - Frame colour (dark gray) / Trim colour (dark gray)
LE Repair Droid - Frame colour (mustard) / Tim colour (mustard)
Probot - Frame colour (dark gray)
Surgical Droid - Frame colour (mustard) / Trim colour (grayish mustard)
DZ70 - Frame colour (gray) / Trim colour (gray)
MSE Mouse Droid - Frame colour (gray) / Trim colour (gray)

Droids that can not be customised:

Protocol Droid

Droids that I am un-certain about:

Binary Load Lifter (BLL) - Haven't built since before customisation patch
WED Treadwell - Haven't built since before customisation patch

Cusomisation Bugs and issues:

The very first "white block" on the customisation colour selection is bugged. This colour DOES NOT stick when the droid is stored.

Droid customisation currently only lasts for 20 calls. After the droid has been called 20 times, it will randomly change colour until customised again

Binary Load Lifters can be customized. I sometimes set my bright-red version loose on patrol in Coronet.

WED Treadwells can also be customized, but the effect is kinda subtle.

In another few days, I'll be able to tell you what happens to their color choices after they fade, but if I had to make a bet, I'd put money on default colors for them, rather than random.

It's extremely annoying. I hope this is one of the many items on your bug lists. A mood droid is not what I had in mind when I bought this thing.

Thanks for the info.

Well I've mainly not been plaing at all recently having gone back to my first MMORPG love AO.

But checking back in I was rather pleased to find that I could build the litle kits and play around with coloring on the droids now. I agree they should fix the bugs, but just to have this option there is nice. And the fact that the colors fade in time just means we will always be able to sell the kits(can others use them too?) or the customization service. Given it'd be a bit hard to charge much, but some folks might be willing to pay a fair amount to get their droid looking just right.

Actually Plzurpilot that is an incorrect assumption that the DE colored his chassis. It has been tested a number of times, by myself, and a few others and it has been concluded that it is completely random. The droid will either come out as one of the color changing droids, or it won't. But majority of the time it will be a droid ofa different color, each and every time.
