Thread: You cannot use half of a comparison to support your argument and then ignore the other half...
1st half of comparison:People saying DEs are a crafter class because we are based off of artisan.....not a combat class like CHs.
2nd half of comparison: Pure CHs aren't a combat class, they are based off of the scout tree, neither the scout tree nor the CH tree require a single point of weapon or combat experience to master.
No matter what skills a profession is based on, DEs craft. CHs don't.
DE best weapon Probot, CH best weapons Gnarled Rancor (I think)
I believe that Scout falls into a "combat support" category. You can't get scout exp without going hunting, whether or not you actually "kill" anything. But, all the same, you are out in the open, at least part of a hunting group or hunting solo. You will be helping the group by creating camps and such, and you will be reaping the bounty of the kills by harvesting. Obviously, scout is not a "pure combat" profession, like brawler or marksman, but you can't be serious in thinking that there isn't some combat involved in being a scout.

The entire emphasis of DE is to craftdroids. I would add that since DE is based off of Artisan and thatsince mostdroids can be used byeveryone, that this means that DE was meant to be sell droids. One doesn't even have to compare it to combat to demonstrate that this is true.
The entire emphasis of CH is to train animals. CH doesn't craft anything. As of the dev's plan, the newCH profession design will not allow them tomake money from training most of theiranimals. CH is therefore not a crafting class, neither are they a merchant class.
The only similarity is the fact that there's an entity that follows you around and can potentiall do combat. But as you know not all droids are capable of combat whereas all creatures are, until you make them into mounts.
We shouldn't be striving to become like CH.
And medics sell stims and scouts sell animal products. Don't make them crafters.
Hardly anyone is looking at this issue from the perspective that they should be looking at it......From the characters point of view.
I don't know about any of the rest of you, but I often look threw my characters eyes, so that I can see the world as he sees it. Isn't that the purpose of a MMORGP? To set out of your present existence and step into a different reality? (A virtual reality). If I lived in a universe where danger was at every turn and I was in the middle of a galactic war, I would want something that only I could control that was a bit better than what the Antilles' have just so I could run out to check on my harvesters everyday.

If that's the case, then Weaponsmiths could both be considered Combat Support.

A CH can still sell their pets even after the upcoming nerf. If they are not a merchant class why do they get this perk ? What is wrong with us getting the opposite perk, a droid to use but not sell. So the comparison works on that point too. If CHs are a "combat" class, why can they sell their pets too ?
Agreed, I know a couple CH's, both nice guys, but both make more money selling pets in an hour than I do selling droids in a week. One of them is also a BE, he's licking his chops at the upcomming changes because it will increase his business, not decrease it. Mounts aren't the only animals that can have their CLlowered by a BE, we haven't seen the last of everyone having a Rock Beatle or Cowardly Gurreck just because the Devs are planning to lower the max control to CL10.

Yes, but they'll do that by stunting it's growth. The lower CL pet will have reduced power.
Sorry, this post is getting off-topic.
Some things....
1) CH Pets can only learn combat commands. Attack, special attacks, guard, group....CH Pets do not have the "utility" commands that Droids can be made with. Furthermore, you'll never find a CH Pet that cannot attack. Does this not draw you to the conclusion that CH Pets are designed specifically as a combat weapon?
2) CH selling their pets, I presume you mean to ordinary people? Well, if I recall, they can only sell up to a certain level because the Devs wanted people to have access to mounts. Mounts are a non-combat use of Pets. Unfortunately, they inadvertantly allowed non-CH people to use these pets for combat as well, but the point is, the original purpose of allowing CH to sell pets to non-CH people was to allow the common person to have access to purchasing pets for the only non-combat purpose they had: being mounts.
3) Creature Handler coming off the Scout line is because it was the only line that had anything to do with animals. Brawlers and Marksmen use weapons of their own, and the combat comes from themselves; Scouts are people of the land, and learn various wildlife skills. That is why Creature Handler comes off of them.

At CL10 those creatures are perhaps as bad as or worse than our probots are right now, which people are alreadygenerally disatisfied with as combat droids. I shouldn't mischaracterize this, since there will be a market for CL10 creatures, but they will be for people who haven'treached their elite profession yet. Demand will thus be much lower. They probably won't be able to sell their non-CHpets for more than 15-20k. That is why I say that they aren't really able to make much money off of them after the changes happen. The CH is better off using the CL11-70 creatures only they can use making 100k credits a dayfrom missions. I'm sure it'd be easy to prove that the changes they are getting will de-emphasize theirsales.
The opposite seems to be the case for future droid changes. More money for more more droids thatare useful to more people. I think thereis ahopethat we can sell combat droids that are better than the CL10 creatures, but not as powerful as the best creatures. I think the non-DE droid endangers that possibility and in the end we'll only be able to sell weak combat droids, with the best one(s) only usable by ourselves. I think that's a risk that will harm those who want to be pure crafters.

Being a combat class has nothing to do with what the requirements were, otherwise how could marksman be a combat class? What defines a combat class is how it is used, what its primary purpose is. Since creature pets have no other purpose than combat (with the upcoming mounts this will not be exclusively true but still mostly true for CH's) they are a combat profession. Droids on the other hand, have mostly utility uses, with very little in the way of combat. This implies that DE is a crafting and utility profession.

Mosati, ya might wanna check your logic there, besides taking that sentence without the supporting argument. If Scout is combat support then Weaponsmith is? Weaponsmiths in no way (other than the piddly possible UXP) get exp byjoining a hunting group around then reaping the bounty of the kills, as Scouts do. Weaponsmiths get exp by CRAFTING, not by hunting.
