Thread: DE-only's vs. Pure Crafters...A possible solution

I really don't like to see us arguing about what our future should look like. I'd rather focus all that energy on the development team. So, I've been wracking my brain for a way to make both camps happy. Here it is, please send me your feedback:

  • Master Droid Engineer receives a schematic for DE-only Uber Combat droid, CL 100 (okay, the CL 100part is just a daydream)....and a chassis version, for decoration, comes at lvl IV.

  • Master Artisan receives droid command: Activate DE-only Uber Combat droid.

I don't want to limit the idea with specifics, but you get the concept, I hope.

Combat DE's want an Uber DE-only combat droid. Okay, you can have one, if you are dedicated enough to also master Artisan (most DE's find life easier to master artisan anyway).

Pure Crafters want to keep dabblers and combat-minded people out of the profession, to prevent ruining the droid market. We can't have what happened to CH's happen to us because we craft, not hunt, for a living.

Making Artisan Mastery a requirement will not have a large negative impact on those of us that are dedicated to droid engineering, but the amount of skill points needed to get the DE-only droid will certainly discourage the hybrid-combat dabblers. That and all the grinding and resource scrounging required to get there.

Of course, this assumes that we will also have sellable combat droids of a lesser sort for all of those non-techie people.

I like it. This will really prevent the dabblers, but also allow us to be geeks with powerful droids -- and give us Master DE/Master Artisans another reason to have Master Artisan which is a big skill point drain.

Yeah, there's definite agreement coming from me. I'm not worried about dabblers, but this does make me keeping master artisan more worth it than not.

A couple of things to think about:

Whatever requirement is put into the Master Artisan cannot be a craftable item. Items can be bought and sold and that would make this idea just.....stupid. 'nuff said.

I used an example of a command granted at master artisan, but it doesn't have to be that. Perhaps an alternative could be that the character must acheive certain high levels of skill, like 100 artisan experimentation + 100 droid experimentation (when they get that fixed). Or whatever level you get when you hit mastery, I can't remember. It would work the same unless a dabbler found the most awesome skill tape ever, and if so, that's only one person and we would all shun him like a leper.

UBER UBER UBER UBER

That would make it more fun because people will see that and say "wow! I want that!...and they will look at the requirements and there would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And it would be good.

And if I go through all the trouble to master artisan and DE, I would want more than a CL 25 pet to show for it.

Okay, so artisan experimentation wouldn't be a good skill modifier level to base this one because humans get a bonus there. And I'm not sure, but I think master artisan doesn't get any skill bonuses. So that would have to change to make this work that way.
