Thread: If people became DEs just to get a hypothetical DE only droid...

They are not going to hurt your normal droid economy. Are you all crazy ? They are not interested in being crafters, if they were they'd already be one.

They are going to post on this board "What is the best to grind to make MDE"

Then they are going to make Mouse droids and advanced frame units until master. They are not going to take the time to make and seel droids.

The type of player to join a class just for a droid is going to be a powergamer, powergamers are not interested in crafting.

That's great except for one thing...

That's one less customer for us to sell a combat droid to. That's why it's bad for DEs that want to sell things.

The solution is very simple.

Under no circumstances should any droid be put in the game that is DE only. The "certs" should just be Master of ANY novice profession

Master of ANY elite / elite hybrid profession

At least X amount of skill points spent total.

That handles all the aspects of the problem. I don't see why this is so difficult for everyone to understand.

Agreed - just a temporary 'wobble' in the force, so to speak.

Not only will they drop DE as fast as possible thereafter and move on to the next Holocronic Nirvana, they will tell all and sundry how loathsome the grind for them was, not to mention expensive.

That should discourage a few more.

Just to clarify - my agreement is with the original poster, not the tired argument that follows it.

When can we get *edit* - pah

If all the changes talked about in "the plan" take place I don't think a few less customers will be anything to worry about.

We can start chargering more for probots (or start charging what we should have been charging all along) if they get boosted. We can sell tons of medical droids if they decrease mind damage while healing. Every PvE'er's ganna want one if they toss out low level stim packs every once in a while. Every crafter will be buying a power droid. Comandoes will buy tons of MSE bombs...etc...etc.

And as someone else stated, chances are if these people just want to grind to get the ability to command this droid, they're not ganna build it themselves. They'd have to get a factory for identical components, get rare reasorces, master artisan..etc

Personally I think anyone who grinds there way to MDE deserves a droideka anyways...

Why not make it available to everyone in a sensible way? You guys aren't even paying attention.

DE would still get to use them, so what's the problem?

DE gets to use them - You are happy

DE gets to sell them - The other "camp" is happy

Tired argument? Seriously, read it again.

We've said until we're blue in the face, if our top droid is available to everyone its going to be balanced based on use by ilite combat professions. That means its going to be reletively low level just like non-CH pets. The difference between CH and non-CH pets is almost an order of magnitude.

I'm curious.

Would this argument be over if we could get from the devs droids that we could sell which would be better than non-CH pets, except with the certification system? I've sorta been assuming the need for certificationthe whole time as a means to sell better combat droids than non-CH pets.

If our best combat droid is only as good as a non-CH pet (CL10), then that would suck and I would quickly change camps.

However I've been assuming that the certification system was so thatthey wouldallow CL15-20 equivalentor better combat droids.

You are so wrong.

How do you think the new droids will come? in a different line of itself? nope, they'll come as part of the existing lines, meaning, these 'combat' oriented DEs will be able to make the same droids we can... and they will not care about selling them for profit, they'll probably just give them away to their friends. That means LOTS of less customers. Good luck selling your medic R4 at 6K when these guys start giving them away.

YOU are so wrong...

They are not going to waste time making full droids to grind through the skill tree, they are not doing DE to make a profit selling. How many different materials go into a droid ? Why would they waste time with that when they can grind frames. Also, I doubt they will make them for their as easily as you think. They will almost certainly require rare materials and parts made by other classes. It will be much easier on them to just buy the droid itself.

I don't know where people get the idea that the combat only MDEs are out to screw them, they aren't. They aren't going to try to ruin your business by making and selling droids cheap.

Yes, I agree, their effect on the economy would be fairly irrelavent (I would like some more DE's, competition makes things more interesting). What would matter and have a huge effect would be what happens to the profession. As I've stated before, assuming DE-only combat droids weren't overpowered the primary people you'd have joiningthe profession were those who like droids, but don't really want to be primarily crafters (If this weren't a crafting profession that would be fine). Now, they come in with the expectation (and the precedent is set) for some combat orientation for the profession.

They will quickly become board with the few combat droids they have and start demanding more from the devs. Given our relatively low numbers currently and the likely change in number, there is a good chance they would have a louder voice than any others. Combat droids would be easier for the devs to implement (note, this does not mean it will be done sooner, it means they can start on it later and push it off longer), therefore it is most likely this is what they would put in, to make us happy.

Now, if you believe for a minute that they will focus both on combat droids and utility functions for droids you have had experiences with different devs than these. You will get more combat droids than you could have ever hoped for, but you will also never see the load lifter doing anything, or a survey droid, or a maintenance droid, or any of the other great ideas we've come up with on this board.

I wouldn't mind the class taking a much more active roll as a hybrid combat/crafter class....since there isn't one of them yet

but thats a whole different argument.

"hybrid" implies it will work out fairly even, if the devs start working on combat droids they WILL NOT do anything for the crafting/utility portion of the profession. About the only way you'd get a hybrid is if the devs decided to write an entire new class, and then your talking a couple months after space expansion at the earliest.
