Thread: Droid Experimentation?

Howdy,

I'm relatively new to artisan'ing, I have a Novice Droid Engineer, and have been playing a little with experimentation. I have two questions.

1) What is the value in some of the experimentation? I understand the value in making a better medical module (makes medics better at what they do), but what is the value in experimenting on the integrity of a Level 1 Storage? Doesn't a Level 1 storage (-9) still hold just as much as one with a -4 mod? Similarly, when I craft my Advanced Mouse Droid, there are various things I can experiment on with it. One I would imagine equates to hitpoints, the others don't seem to do anything. Is there a lot of useless experimenting with the profession, or am I just too new to know what I'm doing?

2) When crafting artisan things such as crafting tools, or harvesters, I'm able to experiment a lot safely, but when I try to get that extra little bit of reliability to my medical modules, I do so with a 50-59% chance of failure. What causes this failure rate to go up? What can I do to bring it down?

Thanks a lot!

Unless it is one of my master artisan items,I dont experiment anymore. I only get 1 point to use on droid experimentaion, and most of the time does more damage to it. The chances of actually improving the droid item is so slim, and the affect it has on final quality, just doesnt make it worth the effort.

Droid Experimentation not only gives you more points to use in experimenting, but also improves your chance of success. With my current Droid Experimentation skill of 112, I can do 8 experimentation points at one shot with a 0% chance of failing. Higher experimentation skills might also improve your success rate (i.e. great success vs. success, etc) but I'm not sure on that one.

As for experimenting -- it doesn't really do much for DE. Granted they threw us a bone and gave us the part quality rating that we can improve...but that really doesn't have much effect on the final product that we get. Yes, I do still experiment as much as possible, but, as an example, my Adv Probot started with 820 HAM, I used 4 points and got the HAM up to 825...I then used the remaining 4 points I had at the time, and even though I got a success each time, it never improved above 825. They impose caps on certain ratings for droids. Conversely, if you experiment up on your modules, you CAN improve their ratings. I've improved the Storage Rating of a module by a maximum of 2 points using all of my experimentation points (that was with a module rating of 10, the storage rating had improved by 2 from the base).

Hope that information helps.

That did help a lot, thanks!

Just one question, what was the difference between a storage module rating of 8 or 10? The amount it can hold?

Right now, at my novice levels, I'm making Level 1 storage modules with a rating of -9, if I experiment on it, I can get it up to -3 (I think). Either way, I can just hold 1 item.If I were able to get it up to 2, would it be able to hold two items?

Thanks!

Theres the module rating (seems to have little to no effect on anything) and the storage rating or whatever its called. The storage rating is what will go up (though not by much and you need some major experimenting). You probably won't be able to raise the storage rating or medical capability until you hit master, just given the way the experimentation works out. by then you can make the best anyway and experimentation won't help it at all.

what about the experimentaion values for crafting stations......

i made a +4 weapon.droid station, someone said this is on par with a +40% normal station.

anyone got a clue bout this? this is the only thing i really dont understand.

I Made a +5 food/chem and was kinda depressed because a regular crafting station with a 5 rating would really suck. It was for my sister and I really don't know how well it's working for her. It would be cool if that translated into something like +40 personal station.

But then what about those -7 types we make when we don't care?

btw, 8 experimentation points with 0% failure is pretty darn good. I know I have a bit extra through skill tapes and I only get 5 experimentation points at about 13%

The rating on the module has nothing to do (as far as anyone has been able to determine) with the quality of the station. Before the big probot nerf it was used to calculate damage and HAM of droids, but when they nerfed probots they also screwed up the experimentation, so you don't see much of an effect with it.

No clue on the failure percent thing...I've always wondered myself.
