Thread: SLicer droids?? a question from a non DE for a new droid addon
Faction bases, we all hate standing there blasting the bases from faction missions for 10 min to kill them.
How about a droid that can slice a base setting a self destruct for the bases when you kill all the defenders. This droid would also work on other NPC bases (corsec, Belladona, wookie brawler, NYM etc.....)
what do you guys think about this. I know discussing it with people on game there is a big deamand if these ever came out.
Easy implementation . . . add a slicing module which DEs can craft.
Cool implementation . . . make R series de facto slicing droids
Uncool implementation .. . introduce a brand new droid which only slices, and not grant slicing abilities to R series (doh!)
Acool suggestion from eons ago: Slicing droids can "hack" into mission terminals and make them give more credits than normal (kinda like player city specialisation which no city implemented, lol)

That's exactly what slicing 1 gives to smugglers. I could see lots of whining.
What if you just tweaked the current base takedown system? Require the BE, Smuggler, BH, Commando and (the other prof is slipping my mind) to use a droid with a slicing module to access their terminals when taking down the base.
You could add a craftable slicing module, add an option to the droid's radial menu for "Access Terminal". Terminal window pops-up, each profession does their thing...

How about slicing modules augmenting slicer's abilities? Increases your slicing ability by 10% or something in addition to what you can already do?
THEN give people without slicing skills that added skill? It consumes battery power of course, and there is a chance of failing to slice.
Trust me, as a smuggler as well...they would SCREAM against this implementation. Best said: free skills = no chance of implementation.
The increased 10% idea won't fly either because 1) imagine a 45% slice on a T21 that would give either a HUGE damage bonus to even a looted T21 or make the speed of it close to a pistol....2) to avoid the 45% slice you would have to nerf slicing....thus also practically requiring a smuggler to own a slicing droid because nobody will go to anything less than a master smuggler with a slicing droid.
The extra content idea is ok...but then again, you also have the smugglers that would cry out that we're selling their content to others who havn't spent the skill points.

IBut I really like idea of droids being able to open locked doors in bases, containers in caves (I seem to remember TH trying to push an idea for slicing packs that non-smugglers could use to open these containers), and I really like the search-lair type concept for bases (that has so much potential).

Again, taking away content from smugglers. The smugglers cried out against the "slicing kit" that even they would sell....what makes you think that they would be behind us on one that they couldn't? The slicing "kit" idea was officially tossed several weeks ago.
Agreed. Wouldn't fly with the general smuggling community. Of course if they remove slicing from smuggler in the smuggler revamp then maybe...![]()
Seriously though, don't know why the module couldn't perform the role of a Molecular Clamp. The clamp is what allows the smuggler to slice without failure identifying what wire needs to be cut. Hell you could make the module have a limited number of uses for a source of renewable income. Would give an easy to use alternative vs. pulling a clamp from a crate.
I don't think droids should be able to slice weapons, armour, mission terminal etc, as they are the soledomain of the smugglers.

These are classic R2-D2 activities.
