Thread: R2 Naming Woes
1) I sold two basic R2 units Thursday afternoon. Both customers reported that the droids wouldn't accept a name. I know the second person is a veteran droid owner, so he knows about naming restrictions (no numbers, etc.), as well as the correct naming procedure. The first customer told me what he was trying to name the droid, and it falls within acceptable parameters. I also gave him explicit step-by-step instructions *and* pointed him to page 141 in the manual, still nothing. Anyone else encountered this problem? I was able to name mine just fine last Monday.
2) Personality chips. I made myself a 3PO Wednesday night, and installed a worshipful personality chip. After taming, I called him out and clicked converse. The speech was dull with no hint of personality. I checked the datapad, and it was showing the worshipful chip installed. I logged out and back in. Still nothing. After the server reset Thursday morning, I logged in and, lo and behold, the droid was properly supplicating himself before me.
Anyone else had this problem?
On a related note, no one else can hear his speech. Is this a problem with the 3PO specifically, or with the higher level personality chips perhaps? I know I've overheard people conversing with their "Sarcastic" droids before.
3) Datapad commands still seem rather hit-or-miss. The probot I made last saturday has them listed, the R2 I made Monday does not, the 3PO I made Wednesday does. I sold an advanced probot yesterday, and that person (also a veteran droid owner) reported that the commands were not listed in the datapad. Has anyone figured out what causes them to list and what doesn't?
Just curious if anyone else has run into these problems/bugs.
Yes. I have a mouse and an R4 that I was able to name with no problem. But last night I bought myself a nifty new surgical droid with a sarcastic personality chip and chemical crafting unit. I wasn't able to name him, nor did the commands show up in the list like they do for at least my mouse (I've had the mouse for about a month - the R4 is newer). The personality chip works, though - he's quite rude sometimes and I love it!
I haven't looked at the lists to see if this is a known bug, althougha droid engineer told me last night that it was happening with some frequency. My only hope is that when it is fixed, it's retroactive so I can name my new droid.
I'm guessing you put personality chips in the R2s. Droids with personality chips in can't be named (which is also the reason for ClearAqua's problem). AFAIK there is no workaround for this atm.
As for the R2 being named, could've been anything from a bug to a bad name. /bug it, that's all i can say.
For talking droids, they can talk and others can hear them, but this is on really rare occasions, and usually occurs if you're in combat and they're next to you. Still, only see it once ina few days or so, but everyone can see that when it happens. Still, nobody can see it when you're conversing with it.
