You guys should be able to place battlebot arenas. Just my two cents.

And whats this BS about some Droid handler profession? Why can't they add droid handler functionality to your existing profession? That makes tons more sense

Battle Bot Arena...hehe...Nice.

As far as adding DH to our profession, that makes sense, but we mostly prefer to remain a crafting class. If a DH class was added, we would create our own objects to be used...self-supportive. That would not be the best idea.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there, considering that combat medics make their own poisions, making them totally self-supportive. And, if you view creatures just like natural resources, then Creature Handlers, are, too, totally self-supportive.

In all honesty it must be much simpler to add Droid Handling abilities to your current profession, instead of creating an entirely different profession. If this did happen, DONT think of it as if youre becoming a strict combat profession - of course your original crafting abilities would not migrate. Just think of it like this, youre merely becoming useful in different ways.

On a personal note, I truly wish high level combat droids would be added to this game, and merging the DH idea with the existing Droid Engineers seems to be the best outlet for this. After all, DROIDS are a big part of STAR WARS, and it sucks not being able to see them!

This is a very common misconception. Eventually in one way or another, a Creature Handler will have to go find a BioEngineer. Petstims, BE clothing, and now food additives are a BIG prortion of the income for the few BE's that I know. All of the really "powerful" pets are no longer found in the wild, but are BioEngineered as well.

Any combat medic that wants any decent poisons/diseases/stims will need to go to a doctor for parts. They barely have any experimentation on some of their sub-components. Also, they require master medic and ranged 4, we require engineering 4, combat medic is much more expensive pre-requisites.

Point well taken, thanks guys. A DE/DHformation in the same profession WOULD be self sufficient. That being said, is it really a big deal?

Their special Combat Droids could fulfill roles not readily able to other professions, for example a droid's invulnerablility to poison, warcry, etc could last much longer towards select mobs that do these types of special attacks.

Just out of curiosity - why are you guys afraid of "virtual" independance as a profession? ( I say virtual because in essense, you arent. you need master artisan for most of your droids ) Was it something that a dev had said that has made you all feel this way?

its more a matter of balance. If they could add combat droids to the DE profession without taking away from the crafting portion of the profession, I really wouldn't have a problem with adding combat droids. However, its pretty clear from the way the game is set up that that wouldn't happen. If they add combat droids, they will either take away current utility aspects or not put in future utility aspects they would have otherwise. I (and the DE community in general) would rather have the utility than the combat.

Jenden..you keep saying this over and over.

But it is not NECESSARILY true, its just what you think might happen. They will NOT take away utility because.......that benefits all players so there is no reason for them to do that (they also want, somewhere deep in their hearts) to make droids fun to have in utility.

There really is no connection with what they might (or might not) put in as utility for our proffession to make (not use..make) for other players, and the combat droid issue.

Nobody can argue that if we get combat droids, that very thing destroys the (for argument sake) slicer module possibility.

Such a worry and hypothesis just isn't going to materialize.

I hope you can see this.

The problem, and the main reason they will never add high powered combat droids to the DE profession is this:

DE only requires Eng 4 as a prerequisite. Any of the hybrid professions in the game take at least 2 trees of a novice profession, some require much more. They will never up the requirements to become a DE, as that will require a wiping of the DE profession, or simply dropping those that don't have the additional prerequisites. This is a Customer Service nightmare for SOE, so they will not go this route. And without upping the requirements for DE, they won't turn DE into a hybrid profession.

DE is a crafting profession as it is now. Now, I would love to have powerful combat droids following me around, but I dont think DH type abilities have a place in DE. The fact that I am a crafter as a DE is something I accept, but I wish there was a way I could be a DE and control a high level combat droid. I just dont think it can be done without having some sort of combat prereq like Ranged Support 4. I also dont see why by having skills in other professions they cant enhance your main profession. For instance I am a master medic and master DE, couldnt my knowledge as a master medic help me make better medical modules for the droid. Same with Ranged Support, if I take it, couldnt it help me in some way make or control stronger droids. Basically, as you go up DE then the game would look at all your skill mods and professions and attribute those to give you more schematics, better modules, or more experimentation/customization. So if you just wanted to be a crafting DE go get Eng IV or MA and craft away and if you want the Combat Droids pick up ranged support. I still think they should DH skills in the Squad Leader tree.

As far as combat vs utility we shouldnt be arguing for one or the other but both, because droids do both. We need a lot more droid types and droid functions. Look at architect and weaponsmith, number of final products they can put out is tremendous, whereas DE most of items are subcomponents for a handful of droids most of which no one wants.

I will add my 2 cents here ... not that it much matters ...

It would all depend on how they went about combining dh/de they could easily just add a Master DE only Combat Droid...

As far as making us a hybrid profession that would be easy as well ... all they have to do is add it un Artisian Business or as or DEtrade goes now possibley under entertainer... lol

Suits me fine if they make MA (all of Artisan) a prerequisite, but that would be going over the top just a bit. Our poor ENG4 only bretheren would then have to like it or lump it, and since they seem intent on ruining the DE potential and refuse to listen to any argument about inserting a NEW way of looking at DE, it would serve them right.

SOE could do it - give 2 weeks warning to enable all those who dont have rhe new prerequisites to get them, and then 'blam' its done as a once off. No customer relations nightmare, just a small hiatus in the 'Force'

But thats another issue

I think it would be nice if we were given much stronger combat droids that ANYONE could use.

If it didn't count towards your pet control for CH style stuff, there's not reason a player couldn't have a decently strong droid with High HAM's and good damage, maybe CL20 or even CL30 level. Think about it for a second, people are finding extremely inventive ways to solo. Doctor buffs give you the added ability of a CL30 pet IMHO, I know that with Doctor buffs as a TKA I could take on groups of stuff without slowing down that a small group of unbuffed players would have to take in small pieces!

All over Professions are finding way to max out their abilities with other professions stuff. From Brandy to Pixie to Doctor buffs to Krayt guns to Entertainer buffs, all this would be is an extra option. Pull out your droid and you suddenly don't NEED Master Doctor buffs to take that lair down in less than an hour. If CH's can use the droids as well, there's no real over/underpowering issue.

Of course this is based on how players can make themselves overpowered right now, if the Dev's feel that Master Doctor buffs of 3K for 3.5 hours are ok, then why not a 3K HAM droid that can do maybe 150 - 300 damage with high armor rating? Droids are unique in that they're mechanical, and require no special training to control. I can see why players shouldn't have high level Pets (beyond the need for a CH profession) but why not droids? All I need is an owners manual.

My personal preferance would be to get away from the whole combat droid thing entirely. Make droids perform special tasks. Maybe certain types of droids can have a "Factory" module that allows them to create small crates of items (maybe 5 unit crates) so that people don't need to buy a factory for even small businesses. Or a mining droid that can help you harvest materials for periods of time. Droids that can help you slice weapons, armor, etc would be great as well. (Slicing module idea last I heard) I meant here are dozens of tasks that could be performed by droids that would make this game easier and make this profession much more useful without even CHANGING the game!

Possible ideas:

Slicing module

Small Factory abilities (maybe a crate of 5 or something and wait half an hour to recharge)

Small harvestor abilities (maybe dig up 500 of a resources or 1K of a resources then have to wait an hour or two)

BLL's could hold tons of items for an hour or two, maybe 300 or so, so people could move their vendors or houses.

Assign an R unit to a house or an MSE to a house to reduce maintenance costs.

Protocol droids could be used for information sharing devices (allow users to program in small strings of text and and menus so people could ask it questions and/or get info from it)

Temporary Merchant abilties. (Set up a small store with a droid while you're there, allowing non-merchants to sell stuff in town for short periods of time)

There's a ton of small, menial tasks that could be performed by droids that would aid people without turning this into a copy-cat profession or taking away the crafting aspect of it.
