Thread: Is it possible to paint/color Adv Droid Chassis?
You cannot. Previously when a chassis was made its color could be set before the prototype was manufactured, but you could never use a customization kit to alter the color.
With the last patch the ability to set the colors was removed. It will be replaced in the next publish but in a slightly modified form.
No, the Devs nerfed this.
We used to be able to make chassis of droids cheaply for decoration. This was a wonderful thing, because it gave many DE's who don't get a lot of sales because of their lack of function made a fine living producing these for greatful customers. They were sold at a fraction of the cost of a full, live droid.
In the last patch, they stealth-nerfed this so we could no longer color those chassis.
A couple of weeks later we were told that this was by intention - they are giving us a new system to display finished droids in the next patch (one of our very minor profession concerns). It's unfortunate they didn't tell us of the nerf or maybe would could have at least stocked up to help customers like you. 
The "new" system is like a BE pet - the "deed" looks like the droid now. What really stinks is that now it has to be a finished droid, which means you cannot reuse the chassis as you could before, and it's going to cost just as much as a real, working droid to have a simple decoration in your home.

Pricing for show droids shouldn't really change.Droid chassis used exactly the same components as the basic droid, I believe. Your R2 chassis would be replaced with an R2 with no armor and no modules.
- You are forgetting about the several hundred chemical.
- It is still going to cost more for a less functional product. Let's say a Cantina put up 5 droids that said, "Welcome to Audio's Cantina!". I change the name to the "Depressed DE Cantina". As a DE I can no longer offer "trade-ins" in situations like this because it will be a deed of a final, armorless, module-less droid. Of no use to anyone.
- It just seems awfully inefficent to go about it this way; and many of us just don't understand why we can't have both. We know that as the system currently stands, the color of the chassis never had any effect on the final droid. Why can't they leave the ability to color them in, and make whatever new deed system they are designing ignore it as well. It's already that way - I don't see why it needs to be changed. As we all know, there isn't really paint on top of metal to deal with here - there is a color code attached to chassi, which the deed does not take into account. Why can't the new system do the same, leaving us this simple thing?
- This was all in response to our minor concern about the droids we couldn't make chassis for; as a DE the only one I can't make that I've ever been asked for is a Power Droid. Instead of just adding a chassis for that model, we got a vital feature ripped away.
It doesn't matter how you cut it, the new system is much more limiting than the old one which is one of the few things in the DE profession that worked just fine. To think they are wasting Dev time on something that in the end is still a nerf is depressing.

No, building a basic droid does not use any more chemical than building the advanced chassis. It does require more chemicals to build an advanced droid since you have to essentially build a basic droid when you build the chassis and then add in additional chemicals and possibly a droid brain as you turn the chassis into the full version, but the requirements for a chassis are identical to the basic droid with the exception of no service module slots and no defensive module slots (as they come in the final step).
I will admit that the product is slightly more limited since you cannot take trade in and turn a deed for a basic droid and turn it into an advanced droid but at least in my experience that has only happened once in about nine months, and really it wasn't a trade in. I misnamed a chassis and kept it to turn it into an advanced droid later.
I will admit that I can't see a good reason why we can't have both but I disagree that it is much more limiting. It's a little more limiting in certain areas (ability to take a chassis back and do something with it) and a little better in others (ability to build display units for R5s, DZ70s, and Treadwells)
