Thread: Don't Silence Dissent

It is my opinion that the majority of Combat Droid buyers are unaware of the XP reduction they experience when using their droids. I believe that to be a function of the fact that the little number floating over the head of the targetted enemy reflect the full point value, even though that point value is not awarded. This, then, artificially inflates the market for combat droids.

Furthermore, I contend that certain users of this message board are perfectly fine with this passive deception, since they are essentially in agreement that the XP ought to be reduced. It's a concern for me. I think players should know about the XP reduction. Ask Aglanon how many droids he bought and used before figuring it out.

The XP reduction is a detriment to future sales, provided players are not lied to by the seller. It's a legitimate issue for discussion for future development. Does anyone else agree?

How much is the xp reduction, and is it there with or without grouping the droid? Does the grouping bonus offset it?

I'm guessing if they're unaware of it now, they soon will be when they revert the exp reporting more towards how it used to be (ie it'll give you a message of the total exp you just earned.).

According to aglanon's research it is approximately 4/5ths of the XP that disappears.

I fear the new reporting method won't work. Even when they were sending xp notice in chat, it still reported the full amount of what that creature is worth to you, despite the fact that the full amount is not awarded. You have to actually monitor your xp to see the amounts being added to discover it.

I was about to start cooking some combat droids. Looks like I need to do some testing first. I'll report my findings.

Nevermind ackdel. Garva has basically indicated that I am not allowed to object to the XP reduction on pain of banning. Apparently talking about it is the same as trolling. So if you value your ability to post here, don't discuss this issue any further.

See if you can get me some hard numbers and I'll pass them on to the appropriate people. I know that the droid is supposed to reduce the XP somewhat (afterall, if the droid's doing the work for you its only fair) but if it really is 80% in most cases that might be a bit extreme.

OK, here's what I came up with for numbers...

The test:
Mob: lvl 80 shallow tortons (easy to kill one at a time and compare)
Me: lvl 80 MBH/Carbineer, no inspiration buff
Droid: lvl 30 DZ70 "Deathticle"

I ran each of these steps 20 times, what you see here are average numbers.

Solo: Each kill, 5123 xp
With droid helping: Each kill, 4935 xp (A 6.7% exp reduction)
Grouped with droid helping: Each kill, 4085 xp (20.2% reduction)

Conclusion: The higher effective level of your droid (grouping with my droid will raise his effective level to 80), the more exp reduction one will experience. It looks like a lvl 80 grouped with his droid would experience the most reduction, at about 20%.

I might test more tonight in a grinding player group, and see how that affects things.

As you have been
informed in several pm's you can discuss all you want but your
agressive condencending tone that all your post have been made in is
inappropriate and is not welcome here.

Aglanon has numbers as a lower level with a 30 that reduced his XP by 80% not TO 80%. Perhaps it is different when you are at level 80.

If dissent IS allowed, then allow me to say that my tone was neither or aggressive nor condescending, even though the tone used toward me by others, who remain unmoderated, WAS both of those things. I did nothing of the sort.

Let me ask you a question: Who cares? Most people grinding exp get in grinding groups. No room in there for droids. Most people are capped out on exp unless they are doing the Jedi grind or pre-Jedi grind. In that sense, droids are just an added dps for combat types and protection for crafters.

I don't see a problem with exp reduction. Sure, DEs should warn people about the exp reduction, but there is also plenty of other information to tell people (how to name, program, use droids, known bugs, etc.). The fact the droids come weighed down with so much training is very unfortunate for DEs.

Not sure what you mean about silencing dissent. This community welcomes all constructive comments.

I'm sure plenty of people care, particularly lower level combat characters who think they're droid is helping them.

How does that not make sense? If you are a level 80 you are dishing out more damage than if you are a CL 10 so you get more xp...you can't expect to be a low CL character and have your droid do all the work for you and expect to get a lot of xp.

That's not the problem. The problem is that the flyover exp text is not showing that there is an exp reduction. It still shows the full amount of exp even though you actually get less exp.

The other problem is the tone of the OP which really clouds an otherwise valid issue that is being raised. Instead of focusing on deception, etc., we should focus on identifying bugs and passing them to the right people.

I never suggested a conspiracy. I never said it was an active deception. I said it was INCORRECT.

Edit: in case you are unfamiliar, passive deception means the person was inadvertently deceived. it's not the same as saying someone CONSPIRED to deceive them.

I said lower level, not necessarily lower than 30, but lower than 80. The question is not a matter of total XP but percent of XP. Theoretically, the xp reductioin is a percentage of the total experience. So if a character has his total experience reduced BY 80% as opposed to it being reduced TO 80%, then that's a problem.

However, the much bigger problem is that there is no indication of this in the XP reporting.
