Thread: Attn: Watch your Data Module Ratings!
As long as a DE doesn't experiment on the Data module, the Astromech Cert. level should == level of Data module.

I don't experiment on any of my Data modules. There's no need (and only makes life harder).
Problem solved.

The following are from the DE 101 Thread. You will find that same results apply when you run a stacking test. The behavior that you are seeing is how experimentation on Level based Modules is supposed to work. This applies to Armor, Medical, Item Storage, and Data Storage. What is throwing everyone off is the simple fact that there never has been a reason to build a lower level module, once you hit Master.

Drashk and TK -please take note of this, test it if you wish,and add it to the Droid 101 and JTL threads.
WATCH YOUR DATA MODULE RATINGS!
The Pilot level of an AstroMech droid is NOT dependant on the level of the Data Module you put into it (ie Data 1, Data 2, etc), but purely on the RATING.
To equate it to the Flight Computers: (listed as Flight Comp level = Data Module Rating)
v1 = 1 - 2 = Novice Pilot
v2 = 3 - 4 = xxx1
v3 = 5 - 6 = xxx2
v4 = 7 - 8 = xxx3
v5 = 9 -10 = xxx4
v6 = 11+ = Master
This is extremely important to watch! If you do any experimenting on your modules (as likely was done for pre-JTL run mods) it is very easy to accidentally (or intentionally) bump your ratings up to the next highest level. Below are the Data Modules and their possible ratings:
Data 1 = 12 3
Data 2 = 34 5
Data 3 = 56 7
Data 4 = 78 9
Data 5 = 910 11
Data 6 = 11+
Note the overlap there (highlighted with color). While this makes it cheaper for us to make higher-pilot rated modules, it can also lead to alot of confusion. If you try using a Data 1 module with a rating of 3 (which is just around 50-60% experimented), it counts as a v2 FC (Level 2 required).
Straker_Atrella and I tested this last night for quite a while on several different droids and modules.We found this tobe the case every time. I have not yet tested stacking, but will do that and edit this post to reflect it.
Section9 - Experimentation
Part 5b - Droid Modules
(Level based)
If you experiment on a Level based Module and achieve an Experimental Effectiveness of 93% or higher, the module will perform as if it was 1 Level higher, due to the high module rating.
Example - I experiment on a Level 1 Data Module and achieve an Experimental Effectiveness of 93%. This success while increase the Data Storage Rating to 3, which is the base rating of a Level 2 Data Module. See Section
Section10 - Adding it all up
Part 1 - Level Based Module
Stacking
Droid Armor, Item Storage, Data Storage, and Medical Modules can be stacked to produce the same rating as a Level 6 module. The following is a chart of how all stackable modules relate to each other
Module Stack MedicalItem Data Armor
Level Rating Rating Rating StorageStorage Resists
| 1 | 1 - 2 | --- | 55 | 1 | 20 | 4% |
| 2 | 3 - 4 | 3 | 65 | 2 | 40 | 8% |
| 3 | 5 - 6 | 5 | 75 | 4 | 70 | 12% |
| 4 | 7 - 8 | 7 | 85 | 6 | 110 | 15% |
| 5 | 9 - 10 | 9 | 100 | 8 | 125 | 18% |
| 6 | 11 + | 11 | 110 | 10 | 150 | 20% |
Two highly experimented Level 3 modules, with a rating of 6, can achieve the same rating as a Level 6 module. The Stacking rating is the target number that you are trying to achieve, when stacking 2 or more modules.
Eventhough I'm not getting experimenting up past 50-60%, I'm still hitting the next highest ratings.
Please check that out also if you would. If I'm not the only person experiencing it (as it appears I'm not) then it might be good to add / change it in the Droid 101 and other appropriate threads.
What you are refering to appears to be a bug that is reported. Check the newest entry that I made in the Centralized Droid Issues thread. The Experimentation code for all Data Modules is acting wonky atm.

Droid Data Module
Droid Data Modules can store Factory Draft Schematics. If installed in one of the R-Series Droids, a Data Module can be used in the X-Wing, Y-Wing, and Z95 Headhunter.
Level 1 Data Module = 20 Storage Capacity = Novice Pilot
Level 2 Data Module = 40 Storage Capacity = xxx1 Pilot
Level 3 Data Module = 70 Storage Capacity = xxx2 Pilot
Level 4 Data Module = 110 Storage Capacity = xxx3 Pilot
Level 5 Data Module = 125 Storage Capacity = xxx4 Pilot
Level 6 Data Module = 150 Storage Capacity = Master Pilot
An update of this to reflect the ratings may help avoid confusion, plus an additional note mentioning not to experiment with Data Modules that are going to be used as AstroMech droids. Not everyone reads further when the get to what they think is the quick answer. ![]()
Actually the section that you are quoting from is the Droid Owner/User section. Section 1 - 6 are all user sections. I just need to update the first post in the thread to state this more clearly.

Ah, and Drashk, perhaps I should have been more specific on what I was talking about when I mentioned updating. We current DE's will be aware of this issue, but future DE's reading the stickies may not.
The area I'm talking about is:
