Hello Droid Engineers!
I am considering buying a combat droid and would like to get your expert opinions. I'm thinking I want one to "tank" for me (so armor armor and repair modules) plus have some offensive capabillity.
What would you folks recommend?
Thanks for your help!

Ahhh.... the eternal question.... which combat droid! I'm sure that others will have a few things to say about this, but here's my take on it. These all of course come with Max Resists, which is 20% to about everything (darn those pesky lightsabers!). Yes, I know that when you examine the droid is says 40%, that's a bug. Also, droids don't have armor anymore, just resists.
You basically have 3 choices when it comes to high end combat chassis:
the R3 - about 4500 HAM and upto 6 modules.
the Probot - About 3200 HAM and upto 5 modules.
the LE - About 6000 HAM and upto 3 modules.
I usually offer the following up:
The Combat R3 - All combat modules - does something on the order of 160-170 damage every 2.25 seconds or so. The R3 is usually considered the best overall combat droid because of it's balance between damage and HAM, and the fact that it can switch between melee and ranged attack modes.
The Auto-Repair R3 - 1 Combat, 5 Auto-Repair Modules - Basically, it's an R3 with the firepower of a CDEF, however, it will heal itself and any nearby droid for about 100 HAM every 10 seconds. It main use is to keep the enemy's attention and take a pounding while you kill the target off. If used in swarms, they can be used to great effect as a melee shield to a ranged group.
The Combat Probot - All Combat Modules - they dish out more damage than the R3, at a faster rate (about 180 every second or two), but don't have as much HAM. These guys are best if you're looking for additional firepower. They can mix it up, but are mainly a ranged combatant.
The "TankBot" Probot - All Autor-Repair Modules - Does all of 1 point of damage, heals itself and any nearby droid for about 100 HAM every 10 seconds. This guy is a less powerful, less expensive version off the autorepair R3. It's mainly just to get something's attention while you blast it to bits yourself. It's also a great guy to have around while working on xp because it does almost no damage and won't steal very much xp from you in a fight.
The LE Combat - All Combat Modules - about 60-70 damage, max resists. I honestly rarely sell these, usually only when someone asks for them. They're really the heavy tank because of their 6000 HAM, but because of their limited number of modules they can't dish out the damage or repair themselves like the other two. However, if you've ever wondered what 3PO would sound like in a fight, order one of these with a "Prissy Personality Chip" and sit back and enjoy the show.

you see i dont waste the time putting 3 combat mods into LE repair bots because as you say it doesnt make a difference and damage is not his purpose anyway. i really wish i could just put all auto-repair mods into him but then if hes attacked he just runs away. maybe thats something they could change. i think all droids should be able to attack just as all pets and ppl can. limit their damage to 1 pt per whatever secs and that way we can stock 3 auto repair mods into the LE repair bot and everyone can be happy.
when deciding on a combat droid, consider your profession. i was a rifleman using a LE repair botcause he could stand up to decent things while i used mindshot from afar. while using a probot, it wasnt as effective. the probot lasted no more than a lair spawn while fighting some type of pikets i think it was but the LE repair lasted the whole lair. of course your results can improve depending on how fast you kill things saving your droid from damage. i wasnt very good at killing things fast.

To put it as simple as I can. Bat did a pretty good job already though.
First, you need to ask yourself this question. Do I want a Droid who will kill for me, or a Droid who will distract while I kill?
-If you want a Droid to kill.
The Probot is your best killer.
The R3 kills slower then the Probot but it has a little more HAM, so will live longer.
-If you want a Droid to "Tank."
The LE with 1 Combat and 2 repair with 6000 HAM is best against really really hard stuff. For enemies when you KNOW the Droid is gonig to die. He lasts thel ongest.
The R3 can fit 5 repair, and 1 combat, plus has 4500 HAM. He heals a lot more damage over time then the LE yet has less HAM so goes down faster against really tough mobs.
Think of the LE as a sprinter and the R3 as more of a Marathon runner.
In my opinion the Probot has no place as a Tank.
My personal choice is the Probot to kill and the R3 to Tank.
