DE was actually doing rather well until the "new" Dev team stepped all over us.

We had a decent amount of useful products, enough to certainly make money as a DE if you could explain to people what they all did.

And then they started pulling maintainance out of the bank, which killed structure maint droids.

And then they killed entertainers, killing entertainer droid sales.

They nerfed combat droids (AGAIN!).

The list goes on and on - Medical droids don't even work anymore! Our one true perrenial seller got killed.

It's just gotten worse from there. I was one of those "The day I leave DE is the day I leave SWG", until this all went live, truly killing us. The only things selling now are pre-nerf combat droids and BH droids.

DE was a good profession until a few months ago. Now it's about in the same place as when we launched SWG.

Ten steps forward, eleven steps back.

I gave up last week - I respeced my droid skills away on my main and put them on an alt, then cancelled the alt. If I want to come back to DE in the future I'll just have to reactivate that account - but something tells me that it will be many, many months if not years before DE again becomes playable to someone who wants to have a business and not a hobby.

While what AO says is basically true, not everyone feels the same way. I for one am still an optimist that things will get fixed (Pub 17 corrects some droid issues that plagued us when the CU went in), and I still enjoy providing what small, but needed, services I can offer. I know fixing bugs is a matter of priority, and not all our issues are going to get looked at immediately. I still see a bright future for the DE community.

If it was just a matter of bug fixes I might be with you.

However, they have destroyed the functionality of a good portion of the modules we have gained in the past two years, and at the same time broken even more than was in the first place.

It's great that you are optimistic - I just have been around this bend too many times to play that game again. As I said, it will take many, many months if not years to repair the damage. I've been a loyal DE since beta, never once dropped my skills - but I'm not interested in tinkering with the few remaining modules we have that do anything and fighting it out over who can sell cheapest on the GVS.

We really were doing well late last year, but the fact that crafting is taking an even bigger backseat than it always did, coupled with the fact that we got not one but two publishes last year that now have all but been negated (making them a waste of time in the first place) - well, when you add the GVS to the whole thing and how crafters/merchants, and pretty much all support professions have been (not so kindly) shown the door - well, it makes me glad for the respec.

If it wasn't for respec, I would have cancelled all my accounts. There is so much wrong right now - from so many broken Kashyyyk quests (which were the whole basis for a paid expansion), to the still buggy specials in many professions, to major balance issues that the CU has brought, not solved - it's going to be a LONG wait for Droids to even come close to where we had finally gotten before they ripped the rug out from underneeth us, let alone get us to the place we deserve to be.

We aren't even close to being on their radar for bug fixes (hello, it's two years after launch and I still can't name a protocol droid...) let alone all the new content we need just to compensate for what we have lost, much less any real forward development.

I rememder you AudioOrgana! I also remember the great debates during the "Combat-Droid Fourm Wars" that you took part in. If we can capture the spirit of those days when all DE's stood up and sain NO we arnt gonna take this abuse any more! I think that we could get something done. Even though I dont think we were very successful the first time.

Just thought I'd throw my hat into the ring as well.

I've been away for a year and a half & like Sumus I've re-subbed for a month to check whats been going on. I am in a position where I don't actually need to sell anything as I made a good amount of money before I left - just as well by the sound of it!

I'm away all of June & July so SoE have a couple of months to get some fixes out before I try another months sub around September and I'll be giving JtL a try as well.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much to change for the better but it does look as though DE is indeed a pointless profession at the moment but I am going to be optimistic & say that things should improve over the coming months but as has been mentioned it does seem as though DE is in the exact same position (if not worse if thats possible) than when the game first came out. I for one would not wait another 2 years for them to fix it, a few months I could live with. How difficult can it be to fix the medical modules afterall?!

As for the CU - (and not wanting to go O/T from the thread) - I kind of like it - I was never a fan of the uber-warrior mentality and now we have very distinctive options, either fight or craft, it's impossible to fight effectively without some good elite fighting skills. Unfortunatley the crafters get the wrong end of that as the CU broke just about everything to do with that side of the game not to mention the poor old Entertainers.

I dunno, either they are trying to get rid of crafting completely or they have had no idea exactly what impact the CU would have on the rest of the game. Either way they haven't a cluehow to handle it correctly.

...and I simply cannot believe the bank maintainance thing. But, there again, if the module had worked right in the first place and SoE had made everyone aware of it everyone should have been using the modules. Sounds to me like lazy players have got their own way with that one.

Bah, rant over! Muchos kudos for all those DE's who have stuck it outall this time.

For me it's DE or nothing -we shall see.

I have returned to see how the CURB has effected the game.. DE is just as dead as it was when I left many months ago. Its still theba$tard child of the professional trees. I respeced to Master Smuggler, Master Rifleman, Scout 3040.

Greetings!

I too am back after an extended leave, just to see how things are doing.

I have now seen how things are doing...and it doesn't look too healthy in the wonderful world of DE.

I guess I'll hang around and try out some of the new content, then decide what to do, but based on past experience my bet is that AO has his finger on the right button. Pessimist? Me? Never!! lol

Regards!!

Heh Javelin!!

Back and more confused than I was of old lol

I'll tell you a tale: Me and my trusty R3 (pre CU 4450 HAM or something similar) out wandering and experimenting in the dangerous wilds outside Bestine and the following occurs....

R3 (grouped and ungrouped) takes on Tuskens (various 30-33 CL, nothing special) and takes them down without my help and with barelya scratch. Just as well cos Droid Repair says 'cannot use that tool' (but it worked the previous evening)

Later that day..... Same spawn, 'Kill them R3' and all I get is a continuous stream of !!!!!!!!! some red some blue and the battered old tank does no damage but soaks it up like the trooper he is.

Later still...R3 has learned a new skill and goes invisible (actually returns to datapad, leaving group) so I take the Tuskens out (being a nicely trained Pistoleer on the side)...and thats a whole other story, whew CU indeed!

I'm happy to be back..at least for now, but I is a confused girl!!

So, Droids are Uber sometimes and inactive other times... Poor Old Me is confused as can be.

Meantime, it's nice to be remembered

/bow respectfully (said in memoriam *sobs*)

Regards!!
