Thread: Summary and Response to the Polls
So the poll is over, and I guess I wanted to collect some thoughts about it.
I think it makes it clear what the majority of the community wants and that those of us who disagree should bite the bullet and allow this to become an item on our wishlist to the devs. Here is the reason that will at least help me todo that:
Certification or other balancing mechanisms are probably a long way down the road. Some people seem to think that adding certification will be easy, but I disagree. If it's done by combat class, you'd have to add a certification for every marksman elite class, and every brawler class, and even classes like squad leader, bounty hunter, etc. That's certification bonuses all over the place. I'm sure the devs won't have fun coding that, so it's probably safe to assume that's a long way off.
Any droids that would be useful to us will probably have to be limited to what non-CH creatures are right now. If we want to see effective combat droids in the near future, they'll probably have to be limited to us. The devs say they're giving us new droids, but we don't really know what those are going to be like and they might be only aminor improvement over the current probot. Having only heard of their tentativeplan, we probably shouldn't be debating this topic until their working plan is figured out.
Hearing from what Sintrosi said, it seemed she was supportive of gradually introducing features that lead up to selling all our combat droids when there is a system that their distribution could be better controlled. Then we could haveexcellent combat droids, and the non-DE people who deserved them could use them too. If that's not what Sintrosi was suggesting I apologize. It'll be something I'll hope for though.
At any rate, if you guys are serious about asking for DE only droids, you should probably work on selling it to the devs and other professions as a necessity for lack of a balancing system which otherwise limits us to low-level combat droids. I think that's your best bet. Don't say things like you can't fight without it, cause some other professions like entertainers might be able to say they're in a worse position to fight than we are (which is probably true).
Someone was suggesting the DE-only droid being an advanced version of another chassis we have. Personally I think a separate chassis would be better because some of the suggestions (like Sintrosi's) involves an order of magnitude improvement over the marketable kind (CL15 to CL40). When the devs introduce certification they can fill in the gap with other combat droids.
At any rate, those are some ideas of how to proceed from here.
I really appreciate your posting this, Lancer. I want to see powerful droid pets in game as an alternative to "Rancor-chu" just for the "StarWarsiness" factor. And I just don't see our general-sale combat droids being balanced muchhigher thanthe post-nerf CL10 non-CH pets.
