Thread: Automated Garrisons and combat droids an idea
Hello all,
I am not a droid engineer, but I have always thought the profession (the idea of it anyway) to be really neat. It's sad that the reality of it has been less than thrilling, and I hope that the upcoming "changes" that they keep promising you guys comes through for you all!
I was just thinking about the idea of combat droids and marketable products for the profession - and there being a couple of external factors that play into the utility of such. They worry about combat droids being more effective than non-CH pets, yet droids of such little power would leave you not much better off than before. Conversely I have seen most DE's resist the idea of being 'Droid Handler' and thus in turn resist the idea of more powerful, combat oriented droids that are DE only.
So I was thinking how it can be done that combat effective droids be useful, and marketable, yet not be horribly unbalancing - and I thought of the idea of an 'automated garrison'. If this idea has already been put forward by someone then I apologise!
Similar in idea to minefields - automated garrisons are structures that must be purchased with faction points. They take lot space and perhaps maintenance could be in the form of additional faction points. However instead of being stocked with mines, they are instead stocked with player crafted combat droids.
They can have an "aggro range" where if a player of an opposing faction comes within that range, the garrison is deployed, attacking all overt opposing faction players. If they are destroyed then they are permanently destroyed. If after a certain period of time no enemy contacts remain within aggro range, they will return themselves to the garrison.
Automated garrisons would be placeable near faction headquarters or within city limits.
Combat droids of this nature could be given significant offensive and defensive capability without compromising 'pet' balance. That they are expendable also helps introduce a constant market for Droid Engineers.
I also think the idea of an attack force approaching an opposing base is set upon by an automatically deployed droid garrison to be dead cool!
Thoughts, comments, flames?
Rather than make a whole new building, why not just make combat droids donateable to faction bases, like turrets?
I would still much rather have my own combat droid though ![]()
