Thread: Mad Respect for Your Profession

Hey all.

I'm a Master Artisan/Master Armorsmith/almost Master Merchant. Being a fan of SW and the Star Wars universe, I really wanted droids to be an intrical part of this game. When I finally made Master Armorsmith, I decided to treat myself to a few custom droids. After several "no's", I found a super-nice MDE who made me a great little R2 and a nice probot. The R unit has a few nice crafting stations and item storage in him, and the probot has great armor and resists, 110 medical, item storage, and was colored uber-cool gold by the MDE for me.

Here's what I have to say in response to my conversation with my new pal MDE:

1) I've seen it all over this board, but your profession has been so overlooked it's pathetic. A protocol droid? When anyone and their mother can teach you languages in 5 seconds? Useless.

2) Only 10 items for storage? Unacceptable. Make higher level storage units take a lot of resources, so that you guys can charge a pretty penny for them and actually make some money.

3) Your MDE payoff? A BLL that does nothing? OMG. When I made Master Armorsmith, I got composite. Something that everyone and their mother has/wants. You get something useless. Unacceptable.

4) Color fades after 20 uses? Gotta recharge that droid constantly? Lots of people shy away from the droids because either a) they think their broken or b) no one explained to them how to use them. How about a storage compartment where you can load 20-30 batteries and forget about it? How about colorization that sticks? My first little droid I bought always said "Your droids customization has completely faded away..." Had no idea what it meant, thought he was broken and destroyed him.

5) And finally, since they know the profession is struggling, why the heck don't they add content with the patches? Easy content? I know that vehicles are supposed to be a money-sink (with the repair), but what about a droid that repairs your vehicles without a garage for like 75% of the normal cost? How about a droid that has an uber storage capacity solely while out, for when people move their homes from one place to another? What about a droid that you call out in combat and heals you as you take damage (load 'em w/ stims). Anything! Disposable battle droids that are loaded with explosives. Sick them on the enemy and *BOOM* Come on SOE, get clever.

The great thing about droids is that they can, or should be able to, do anything. They're droids! I can think of dozens of different useful functions droids in the game, that wouldn't infringe on other professions.

Hopefully, with the upcoming patches and expansion, you guys will see your day. I think they should make astromech droids a must for the ships. Hopefully, you'll get yours.

On a side note, after talking to this guy I really became interested in the droid profession. I've decided that once I master merchant, I'm going to drop down to 3001 and pick up DE. I don't expect it to be profitable, only fun, and hope to make some nice custom droids for my friends as my new friend MDE made for me.

Anyway, good luck to you all. I feel for your profession and respect all of you who have stuck with it instead of seeking a payday elsewhere. Mad props, keep it up, and have a nice holiday season.

Very good observations / summary.
Now, what I don't understand is how this gentleman can create a good summary of the plight of the DE Profession after some basic questions and a little legwork, while months have gone by and still nothing from the Devs?!
Yeah, yeah... January...
We'll see.
